Terrence Howard may be considering a move from Hollywood to Washington. The Empire actor says he could run for president if political leaders fail to deliver the changes he believes the country needs.
During a conversation with TMZ in New York City on Wednesday, Oct. 28, Howard shared his political ambitions when asked whether he was looking forward to voting. Rather than discuss his plans as a voter, the actor suggested he could seek the country’s highest office himself.
Howard expressed interest in becoming president and suggested that someone would need to step forward if current leaders failed to make a difference. Although he did not announce a formal campaign, his comments offered a glimpse into the political ideas behind his possible bid.
Terrence Howard puts reparations at the center
Reparations emerged as the central issue in Howard’s proposed presidential agenda. The actor said he would welcome a meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss the lasting effects of slavery and possible economic remedies for descendants of enslaved people.
His proposal includes exempting descendants of enslaved people from federal taxes for the next 400 years.
Howard believes the measure could help address the economic gap and encourage greater investment in Black communities. He also described the proposal as a way to address what he called 400 years of accumulated harm.
However, Howard did not provide further details about how such a policy would work or how a government could implement it.
Nicki Minaj’s political influence also comes up
Howard also discussed Nicki Minaj’s recent engagement with Trump and the political attention surrounding the rapper.
Minaj’s appearance alongside the president has generated conversations about celebrity influence in politics. Howard shared his thoughts on whether she was using her public platform and political influence in the right way.
His remarks add another layer to a conversation about entertainers becoming involved in political issues and using their visibility to shape public debate.
A presidential ambition without a formal campaign
For now, Howard has not announced a presidential campaign or outlined a complete policy platform. His comments suggest that he is considering the possibility, particularly if he believes existing political leadership is failing to deliver meaningful change.
His proposed tax exemption would also raise significant questions about eligibility, implementation and the broader economic impact.
Still, the actor’s remarks have introduced an unexpected possibility beyond his entertainment career. Whether the idea develops into a formal political effort remains to be seen.
