Mercedes-Benz has announced a major safety recall affecting more than 310,000 vehicles in the United States because of a door lock issue that could increase the risk of vehicles rolling away.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall covers 310,667 Mercedes-Benz vehicles from the 2019 through 2026 model years. The issue involves a micro-switch inside the driver’s door lock that could corrode over time.
If the component fails, the vehicle may not recognize that the driver’s door is open. As a result, the automatic parking brake and Auto-Park features may not activate as intended.
Door lock defect could affect parking brake
The NHTSA said corrosion inside the driver’s door lock micro-switch could interfere with the vehicle’s safety systems.
If the system does not detect that the driver’s door is open, the parking brake may fail to engage automatically when expected. That could allow a vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
Mercedes said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.
Mercedes recall 2026 includes several popular models
The recall affects several Mercedes-Benz vehicle lines produced between 2019 and 2026.
According to the NHTSA, impacted models include:
- Mercedes A-Class sedans
- Mercedes C-Class sedans
- Mercedes GLC SUVs
- Mercedes CLE coupes
Mercedes advises owners to check whether their vehicle is included by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate through the NHTSA recall database.
Free repairs available for affected owners
Mercedes-Benz will repair affected vehicles at no cost to owners.
Dealers will replace the defective driver’s door lock with a new component designed to prevent the corrosion issue.
Owners will receive recall notifications with instructions on scheduling an appointment for the repair.
Mercedes has issued multiple recalls in 2026
This is not the first recall Mercedes has announced this year.
In February 2026, the automaker recalled more than 11,000 electric vehicles because of a high-voltage battery issue that could increase the risk of fire. Owners were advised to park affected vehicles outside until repairs were completed.
Later, in May 2026, Mercedes recalled approximately 144,000 vehicles due to a software issue affecting instrument display panels. Dealers corrected that problem with a software update.
The latest recall adds to the company’s ongoing efforts to address safety concerns across several vehicle models.
