Spider-Man: Brand New Day is having a weekend few films ever achieve. Sony’s latest Tom Holland installment posted a revised $72 million in domestic previews, a number that beats the previous all-time preview record of $60 million held by Avengers: Endgame. Walk-up business grew so quickly late Thursday that Sony reportedly struggled to finalize the count in real time.
PostTrak exit polls also came back strong, with general audiences, parents and kids under 12 all giving the film five stars. That preview haul includes early access screenings for Prime Video members Wednesday night, along with regular showtimes that began Thursday at noon.
How Spider-Man’s opening compares to box office history
A preview total this large points toward a first Friday, including previews, north of $100 million. Only five films have ever reached that mark: Avengers: Endgame at $157.4 million, Spider-Man: No Way Home at $121.96 million, Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $119.1 million, Avengers: Infinity War at $106.3 million, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi at $104.6 million.
Brand New Day also became the best post-pandemic preview total, surpassing Deadpool & Wolverine’s previous record of $38.5 million. Notably, the film achieved these numbers without any IMAX screens, since Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey currently holds that format. The audience response has matched the box office momentum, with Brand New Day earning a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest of any live-action Spider-Man film, alongside a certified fresh 90% critic score.
Major theater chains have leaned heavily into the film’s early success. AMC Century City in Los Angeles scheduled 40 showtimes for the film today, while Regal L.A. Live scheduled 44. The Odyssey, meanwhile, continues performing well in its second week, crossing $344.4 million domestically and posting the best second-week total of any Christopher Nolan film to date.

How Spider-Man performed overseas in India
Brand New Day also crossed Rs 100 crore in India within just two days of release. The film earned Rs 28.03 crore on its second day from 12,716 shows, bringing its two-day net total to Rs 88.63 crore. Including additional distributor share, the film’s gross collection in India reached Rs 105.51 crore.
The film opened Day 1 with Rs 60.60 crore from 17,250 shows, with occupancy at 72.3%. That figure dipped slightly to 60.5% on Day 2, though the film continued performing well across every language version. The English version led all formats, earning Rs 15.94 crore with 40% overall occupancy. The Hindi version brought in Rs 9.97 crore, while the Tamil and Telugu versions each contributed just over Rs 1 crore, with both showing improved attendance during afternoon screenings.
With the weekend still ahead in both markets, Brand New Day appears positioned to keep climbing across its global release.
