North West may already be building a music career, but the 13-year-old has another goal in mind: getting a regular job.
In a new interview with Dazed, the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye said she would like to work at Starbucks next year when she turns 14.
The surprising career plan comes as North continues developing her identity as a young artist.
North West Wants to Work at Starbucks
When Dazed asked North what she would do if she were not an artist, she ruled out her former dream of becoming a basketball player.
Instead, she said she still wants to work and specifically mentioned Starbucks as a place where she would like to get a job.
North explained that she wants to experience having a regular job. She also said she believes turning 14 next year could make that possible.
However, North may have to wait a little longer to work at Starbucks. Reports note that California’s minimum age to work is generally 14, while Starbucks typically requires employees to be at least 16.
North West Is Building a Music Career
While a Starbucks job may be on North’s wish list, music remains her main passion.
She released her six-track debut EP, N0rth4evr, in May. The project blends several styles, including rage rap, emo, hyperpop, alternative rock and metal.
North has also started performing live. She made her first solo festival appearance at Summer Smash in June and has joined Molly Santana onstage.
The young performer said she enjoys rehearsing and staying busy. She described going to rehearsal and then heading to the studio as an ideal day.
North Says Music Is Her Future
North also pushed back on advice that she should wait before starting her career.
She told Dazed that she considers music both a hobby and something she wants to pursue with her life. Her comments show that she is already thinking seriously about her future as an artist.
At the same time, her interest in a regular job offers a glimpse into another side of her life.
Despite growing up in one of the world’s most famous families, North appears curious about experiencing something outside the entertainment industry.
North West Wants a Taste of Normal Life
North’s Starbucks goal is especially notable because of her unusual upbringing.
As the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye, she has grown up surrounded by cameras, fashion, music and entertainment. Dazed noted that she has spent much of her life in the public eye.
Now, she wants to add a more ordinary experience to her list.
Whether she eventually gets to wear the Starbucks apron or not, North’s answer shows that she is thinking about life beyond her family’s fame.
For now, though, her focus remains on music, performing and developing her own creative identity.
