The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has filed a theft by taking charge against Thornton and Jared McGriff, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The filing accuses them of taking furniture and a television valued at $5,000 to less than $25,000.
The alleged incident happened on Oct. 28, 2025, according to the documents. Thornton was arrested several weeks later at Atlanta’s airport. She has not been convicted, and the new charge does not establish guilt.
What Did Mia Thornton Allegedly Take?
The case centers on furniture and a wall-mounted television from a furnished condo on West Marietta Street in Atlanta.
According to a police report, the property management company alleged that Thornton and McGriff moved out during the night. The company claimed they took items that belonged to the property owner.
Police estimated the missing items were worth about $11,000. The reported amount falls within the value range listed in the new felony charge. The value matters because it helps define the level of the alleged offense. However, prosecutors must still prove the allegations in court.
Why Was Mia Thornton Arrested at the Airport?
Atlanta police arrested Thornton on Nov. 19, 2025, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
According to police, officers responded to a report about a wanted person at the airport’s Customs and Border Protection office. They identified Thornton as someone with an active city warrant tied to an alleged furniture theft.
Police took her into custody without incident and transported her to the Fulton County Jail. Body camera footage from the arrest showed Thornton acknowledging that she knew about the warrant. Reports at the time said a judge set her bond at $2,500.
The new filing moves the case beyond the arrest and into the prosecution process. However, publicly available reporting has not established a trial date.
Has Mia Thornton Responded to the Allegations?
Thornton has not publicly addressed the specific claims in the latest felony filing, according to the reports cited here. After her arrest, she shared social media messages about staying grounded during difficult moments. She also described herself as a mother and creator focused on personal growth, peace and accountability.
Those posts did not amount to a formal response to the theft allegations. Her position on the specific claims remains unclear. The court process will determine how the case proceeds. Until then, the allegations should not be treated as proven facts.
Why the Dollar Amount Matters in the Case
The new charge lists an alleged property value of at least $5,000 but less than $25,000. Police previously estimated the items were worth around $11,000. That difference in wording is important. The new filing sets out a value range, while the police report provides an earlier estimate. Neither figure, on its own, proves that a theft occurred.
The case also names McGriff, whom earlier reports identified as Thornton’s associate and co-tenant. The latest reporting does not establish whether he has been arrested or what further action prosecutors may take against him.
The court proceedings will help clarify the evidence and the roles prosecutors allege each person played.
What Happened to Mia Thornton After ‘RHOP’?
Thornton joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in Season 6 and appeared through Season 9. She announced her departure in April 2025 and said her family was relocating to Atlanta.
Her move to Georgia later became part of the public story surrounding the condo dispute. The theft allegations emerged after the reported move-out in October 2025.
Thornton’s case also comes amid other legal headlines involving former RHOP cast members. However, each case involves separate allegations and must be assessed on its own facts.
For now, the key question is whether prosecutors can prove the claims in the new filing. Thornton remains entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case moves forward.
