North West is standing up for her personal style after facing online criticism over her appearance. The 13-year-old addressed the comments during a TikTok Live with her mother, Kim Kardashian, while also clearing up questions about her facial piercings.
A screen recording of the broadcast circulated online Thursday, Oct. 15. In the clip, North wore four decorative facial piercings, including two on her upper cheeks and two on the bridge of her nose.
North explained that the piercings were not real. She said she changes the look frequently, which can lead people to believe she has permanent facial modifications. Kardashian, 45, echoed her point and questioned why viewers assumed the piercings were genuine when their appearance kept changing.
North West explains her piercing plans
North made it clear that she likes the look of a bridge piercing and hopes to get one when she is older. However, she acknowledged concerns about scarring and said she might still consider the procedure in the future.
She also expressed interest in cheek piercings. Kardashian appeared hesitant about those plans and suggested that her daughter continue using temporary, glue-on alternatives for now.
The conversation follows comments North made to a magazine in August about her parents’ position on bridge piercings. She said Kardashian and her father, Kanye West, would not allow her to get one at this stage.
North has also spoken about how her appearance helps her express herself. Blue hair and piercings are among the styles she has said she enjoys. Her looks have included colorful wigs, a black grill, fake face tattoos and other fashion experiments.
North pushes back against demonic labels
The discussion also turned to a different kind of criticism. North addressed people who have described her appearance as demonic, urging viewers not to judge someone based on how they look.
Kardashian suggested that the comments may stem from North’s black grill and facial piercings. North questioned why those fashion choices would lead people to associate her with something dark.
She also spoke about her Christian faith and said she sees herself as a source of light rather than darkness. Kardashian appeared supportive as the two discussed the reactions to North’s style.
