The game of deception that captivated audiences returns tonight as The Traitors season 4 makes its highly anticipated premiere on Peacock. The Emmy Award-winning reality competition series welcomes a new all-star cast to the Scottish Highlands for the ultimate test of trust, strategy and survival, with up to $250,000 on the line.
Hosted once again by Alan Cumming at an ancient castle deep in Scotland, the series drops three episodes on Thursday, January 8 at 6 PM PT and 9 PM ET. The format that made previous seasons must-watch television remains intact, but this year promises faster gameplay and surprises lurking around every corner of the imposing fortress.

How the deadly game works
The premise centers on a group of contestants working together on exhilarating missions to build a substantial prize fund. But hidden among the Faithful players are the Traitors, whose secret goal is to eliminate the others and claim all the money for themselves. Under cover of darkness, the Traitors murder the Faithful one by one in a calculated spree.
Meanwhile, the Faithful try desperately to unmask the Traitors and banish them from the game through votes at the round table. If the Faithful successfully eliminate all Traitors, they share the prize equally. However, if even one Traitor survives until the end, they steal everything.
This nail-biting psychological adventure turns treachery and deceit into art, forcing contestants to question every alliance and second-guess their closest friends. The Scottish castle setting adds atmospheric tension to an already pressure-filled competition where anyone could be hiding deadly secrets.
What makes season 4 different
The premiere episode titled Let the Cards Fall as they Will introduces the new cast arriving in Scotland under darkness. The cards of fate get dealt immediately, with secrets lurking in shadows from the opening moments. Production has promised the game starts faster than ever before, suggesting less time for contestants to build trust before suspicions arise.
Episode two, The Death Conga, brings the first Faithful murder and a mission that causes immediate friction among players. Overwhelming evidence emerges at the round table, raising the stakes as Traitors must commit their next murder right under the Faithful’s watchful eyes.
The third episode, Show Me Your Faces, gives the Faithful an early opportunity to avenge recent murders. The mission forces players to literally put their lives in the hands of the person they trust most, a particularly cruel twist in a game built on betrayal. A brutal ending awaits one unfortunate Faithful.
The release schedule ahead
After tonight’s three-episode premiere, Peacock will release new installments weekly on Thursdays. Episodes four and five arrive January 15, followed by episode six on January 22. Single episodes drop January 29, February 5, February 12 and February 19 before the finale and reunion special conclude the season on February 26.
This release strategy differs from the binge model some streaming services favor, instead building weekly anticipation as viewers dissect every conversation and suspicious glance between episodes. The format encourages online discussion and theory-crafting about who might be secretly working against the group.
Behind the competition
Studio Lambert, part of All3 Media, produces the series with executive producers Stephen Lambert, Mike Cotton, Sam Rees-Jones, Rosie Franks, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Darrell Olsen and host Alan Cumming. The format was originally devised by IDTV and RTL before becoming an international phenomenon.
Cumming’s theatrical hosting style and the dramatic Scottish backdrop have become signature elements that set The Traitors apart from other reality competitions. His presence adds gravitas to the proceedings while maintaining the series’ darkly playful tone.
