The Black Women Film Network brought together influential voices across film, television and digital media for its 2026 Annual Summit, held March 21 in Atlanta.
Hosted at the Loudermilk Conference Center, the event centered on this year’s theme, Unbreakable Lens The Power of Community, highlighting the collective force shaping the future of Black women in entertainment.
The gathering featured conversations, panels and an awards luncheon designed to celebrate both established leaders and rising creatives.
S Epatha Merkerson receives top honor

S Epatha Merkerson was recognized with the On Her Shoulders Preservation Award, one of the summit’s most prestigious honors.
Her appearance also included a featured fireside chat that explored her career and the importance of legacy within the industry. The conversation was moderated by Lisa Respers France and served as a centerpiece of the day’s programming.
Danielle Brooks earns AcceleratHER Award

Danielle Brooks was honored with the AcceleratHER Award, recognizing her continued impact and upward trajectory in film and television.
Her work has positioned her as a key voice among a new generation of performers shaping representation on screen.
Sheila Ducksworth recognized for producing impact
Sheila Ducksworth received the ProducHER Award, celebrating her contributions behind the scenes and her influence in bringing diverse stories to audiences.
Angela Cannon honored for leadership
Angela Cannon was presented with the PowerbrokHER Award, highlighting her role in creating opportunities and advocating for equity within the entertainment space.
Felicia Pride celebrated for storytelling
Felicia Pride took home the StorytellHER Award, recognizing her work in shaping narratives that center Black voices and experiences.
Vanzil Burke honored for amplification
Vanzil Burke received the AmpliphiHER Award, acknowledging efforts to elevate stories and creators across platforms.
Expanding the conversation for future creators
Beyond the awards, the summit featured six panels covering key topics including artificial intelligence, branded content as a funding strategy, documentary filmmaking and short-form storytelling.
A new Youth Track was also introduced, signaling a growing focus on preparing the next generation of creatives. Scholarships were awarded to emerging talent, continuing a long-standing tradition of support within the organization.

Industry support and looking ahead
The 2026 summit was backed by major partners including NBCUniversal, Amazon and Amazon Music, along with AspireTV+ and Fulton Films.
Leaders within the organization emphasized their ongoing commitment as the network approaches its 30th anniversary in 2027. During the luncheon, Merkerson also revealed plans to contribute to the milestone celebration, signaling continued momentum for the organization.
A growing legacy in entertainment
As the summit concluded, the focus remained on building community and sustaining progress for Black women across all areas of the industry.
The event underscored the importance of shared support systems while reinforcing BWFN’s role as a platform for connection, recognition and advancement in entertainment.
