WWE’s next breakout name may already be standing in plain sight.

Oba Femi, known in WWE as “The Ruler,” has quickly moved from promising prospect to one of the most closely watched stars in NXT. With a combination of size, intensity and growing fan support, his trajectory inside WWE has become one of the most discussed storylines leading into WrestleMania season.

Born Isaac Odugbesan in Lagos, Nigeria, Femi grew up far from the American wrestling spotlight. As a child, he discovered WWE programming after broadcasts aired internationally, becoming drawn to larger-than-life performers like Triple H and The Undertaker. That early exposure eventually shaped his path toward professional wrestling and set the stage for his eventual move to the United States.

Now, at 27, Femi is no longer watching from afar. He is positioned directly in the center of WWE’s future plans.

From Lagos to the WWE spotlight

Femi’s journey began in Nigeria, where he developed the athletic foundation that would later translate into wrestling success. Before entering WWE, he competed in track and field and built a reputation for raw strength and explosive power.

His transition into wrestling brought immediate attention. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing around 310 pounds, Femi presents a physical presence that naturally separates him from many of his peers. That size advantage, combined with surprising agility, helped him rise quickly through WWE’s developmental system.

Within NXT, he captured championship gold twice, establishing himself as a dominant force rather than just a developmental project. His in-ring persona, built around control and dominance, has aligned closely with his nickname, reinforcing the idea that he is meant to be positioned at the top of the card.

A WrestleMania stage built for impact

Femi’s momentum has now reached a critical point heading into WrestleMania 42.

One of the most discussed potential matchups involves a generational clash with Brock Lesnar. Lesnar, a longtime WWE powerhouse and former champion, represents a different era of dominance. Femi, by contrast, is being positioned as part of the company’s next wave of elite performers.

At WrestleMania 42, Femi is reportedly scheduled for a high-profile singles match against Lesnar, a bout many within the industry view as a defining moment in his career. Not only would a victory elevate his status, but it could also establish him as a legitimate main-event presence moving forward.

Lesnar’s experience and reputation as one of WWE’s most physically dominant competitors make the matchup a significant test. For Femi, it is an opportunity to move from rising star to central figure in WWE’s long-term plans.

Comparisons to WWE’s top tier

Femi’s rapid ascent has naturally led to comparisons with other top WWE names, including Roman Reigns and Bron Breakker. Industry observers have suggested that WWE may be positioning Femi for long-term storylines that place him alongside or against the company’s current elite performers.

A potential future matchup with Breakker, in particular, has generated interest due to both wrestlers being viewed as physical, high-impact athletes designed to lead WWE into its next era. Meanwhile, a confrontation with Reigns, one of WWE’s most dominant modern champions, is considered a natural storyline direction if Femi continues his upward trajectory.

What comes next for “the ruler”

A win at WrestleMania 42 would likely mark a turning point in Femi’s career, solidifying him as more than a developmental success story. Instead, it would position him as a featured name capable of carrying major WWE storylines.

Even without a guaranteed outcome, Femi’s presence on the WrestleMania stage signals WWE’s growing confidence in his potential. His combination of physical dominance, international background and steady character development has made him one of the most intriguing emerging stars in the company.

As WWE continues shaping its future roster under the TKO era, Oba Femi’s name is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook.
