‘Ted Lasso’ season 4 sets premiere date, drops first look

Apr. 29, 2026 / Film / Author: Praise Swint

Ted Lasso is coming back. Apple TV+ has set Wednesday, Aug. 5, as the premiere date for season 4. New episodes will drop weekly through Oct. 7. Fans who spent three years wondering if the show was truly over now have a date to circle on the calendar.

Apple TV+ also dropped the first teaser on April 28. The clip is light on plot and dialogue. Instead, it leans into a montage of familiar faces, new characters, and the warm energy that made the show a hit when it first launched in August 2020.

What season 4 is about

Ted returns to Richmond in season 4, but with a new challenge. He coaches a second-division women’s football team this time around. The season follows Ted and his players as they push past their limits, take bold chances, and embrace the hopeful spirit the show has always carried.

This shift in direction was not entirely a surprise. The final moments of season 3 hinted at something involving a women’s team. At the time, many fans expected a spinoff rather than a full continuation. Season 3 felt like a clear ending. Ted said his goodbyes, headed home to be with his son, and left Richmond behind. Apple TV+ never called it a finale, though. By 2025, the show confirmed a full fourth season with Jason Sudeikis back in the lead.

Who is returning and who is new

Much of the original cast is back. Returning alongside Sudeikis are 1) Hannah Waddingham, 2) Juno Temple, 3) Brett Goldstein, 4) Brendan Hunt and 5) Jeremy Swift.

Seven new cast members also join the show this season: 1) Tanya Reynolds, 2) Jude Mack, 3) Faye Marsay, 4) Rex Hayes, 5) Aisling Sharkey, 6) Abbie Hern and 7) Grant Feely. Each brings fresh energy to a series that has always thrived on its ensemble cast.

Not everyone made the return, though. Nick Mohammed, who played Nate, does not appear in the season 4 cast announcement. Phil Dunster, who brought Jamie Tartt to life across three seasons, also sits this one out.

Why this comeback carries real weight

Ted Lasso arrived when audiences needed comfort most. The show debuted during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly became one of the most talked-about series of that era. It also gave Apcastple TV+  barely a year old at the time  one of its first major hits. The show’s first two seasons each won the Emmy Award for outstanding comedy series, a back-to-back achievement few comedies ever reach.
