James Harden arrested on weapons charge in Texas
The Cavaliers guard was released on bond with strict conditions ahead of a June 22 court date
James Harden was arrested early Saturday morning in Texas and charged with unlawful carrying of weapons, a misdemeanor offense. Authorities say a handgun was found in his vehicle in plain view rather than secured in a holster.
What happens next
Harden was released on bond following the arrest. He has a court date scheduled for June 22, where the case will move forward.
His bond terms come with several restrictions. He cannot possess firearms, ammunition or other weapons while the case is pending. He also cannot use, possess or consume alcohol, marijuana or any controlled or dangerous substance unless a doctor has prescribed it. Additionally, he must submit to random urinalysis testing as part of the bond conditions.
Harden’s NBA path so far
Harden currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals last month by the New York Knicks. He has been in the league since 2009, when Oklahoma City selected him third overall in the draft.
Since then, Harden has built one of the more well-traveled careers among recent NBA stars. He played for the Houston Rockets, then the Brooklyn Nets, followed by stops with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Clippers before joining the Cavaliers last year.
This is a developing story, and additional details may emerge as the case proceeds toward the June 22 court date.
