Heavy flooding submerged roads north of Houston on June 16, leaving at least one motorist stranded as flash flood warnings remained in effect across the region.

Videos shared on social media showed vehicles attempting to navigate water-covered streets in The Woodlands, Texas, after intense rainfall moved through the area.

Local authorities and weather officials urged residents to stay off flooded roadways and seek higher ground when necessary.

Flooding leaves driver stranded

One video captured a young woman standing beside her partially submerged vehicle after rising water trapped her on a flooded roadway.

Storm chaser Jamie Garcia, who shared the footage online, said he helped the driver reach safety after floodwaters stranded her vehicle.

The images highlighted the dangers drivers face when attempting to travel through rapidly rising water during severe weather events.

Flash flood warnings issued

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for several communities north of Houston as heavy rain continued to impact the area.

Officials warned residents to avoid driving through flooded streets and urged anyone in low-lying areas to move to higher ground if conditions worsened.

Emergency management officials often remind drivers that even shallow floodwaters can sweep vehicles off roadways.

Roads submerged across The Woodlands

Video from The Woodlands showed multiple streets covered by water as vehicles moved cautiously through flooded sections.

Flooding created hazardous driving conditions and increased the risk of stalled vehicles throughout the area.

Meteorologists continued monitoring rainfall totals and water levels as storms moved across southeast Texas.

Safety officials urge caution

Weather experts recommend avoiding flooded roads whenever possible. Drivers who encounter standing water should turn around and find an alternate route.

Officials also advise residents to monitor weather alerts and emergency updates during periods of heavy rainfall.

Flooding remains one of the leading weather-related hazards in the United States, particularly during intense storm events.
