Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley and his family were home when an attempted burglary occurred at their Pennsylvania residence early Saturday morning, authorities confirmed.
According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, the incident happened around 5 a.m. on July 18 at Barkley’s home in Tredyffrin Township. Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured.
Police Say Family Was Safe
Officials said Barkley, his fiancée Anna Congdon, and their children were inside the residence when the suspects allegedly entered the property.
“We are incredibly grateful that the Barkley family was not injured during this incident,” the district attorney’s office said in a public statement.
Police responded quickly, causing the suspects to flee before they could harm anyone inside the home.
Investigators Search for Suspects
Authorities believe a large white SUV may have been connected to the attempted burglary.
Investigators are reviewing security footage and asking nearby residents to check surveillance cameras for suspicious activity around the time of the incident.
Capt. Tyler Moyer of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department said investigators are still determining how many people were involved.
“All of the occupants in the home were physically okay,” Moyer said. “They were understandably shaken, but no one was harmed.”
Nothing Appears to Have Been Stolen
Police have not reported any stolen property from the residence.
However, detectives continue to investigate whether the incident may be connected to a growing trend of burglaries targeting professional athletes.
Athlete Homes Have Become Targets
The attempted break-in comes after several high-profile athletes experienced similar crimes in recent years.
Authorities previously investigated burglaries involving the homes of athletes including Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Luka Dončić.
In 2024, the FBI warned that organized theft groups were targeting professional athletes because they are often believed to own valuable items such as jewelry, luxury watches, designer goods, and cash.
Investigators say criminals sometimes use social media activity and surveillance to determine when athletes are away from home.
Investigation Continues
Authorities are urging anyone with security footage from the area to contact investigators.
For now, Barkley and his family remain safe as police work to identify those responsible for the attempted home invasion.
