Power Book III: Raising Kanan is entering its final stretch, and creator Sascha Penn says the ending will leave nothing unresolved. The prequel series, which has spent five seasons tracing how a Queens teenager became the enforcer fans first met in Power, airs its 508th and final episode on August 7. With two episodes remaining, the cast used a rare joint appearance this month to preview how the story wraps up.
When the final Kanan episodes air
Episode 506, titled Dark Matter, premieres tonight, July 24. Episode 507, Penultimate Means Second to Last, follows on July 31. The series finale, Unconditional Love, airs Friday, August 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific on Starz. All three episodes also stream on the Starz app at midnight the night before their linear premiere.

What the ending has to resolve
The stakes carry extra weight because of how season four closed. That cliffhanger showed Kanan aiming a gun at his own mother, Raquel Raq Thomas, blaming her for the deaths of his best friend and his girlfriend. The screen cut to black on a gunshot. Power fans have always known Raq dies while Kanan is still young. What they have never known is how, or whether her own son pulled the trigger. Season five built its entire arc around finally answering that question.
Penn has said the ending was mapped out from the show’s earliest pitch back in 2019. He envisioned Raising Kanan as a five-season story with a defined endpoint, rather than an open-ended run stretched indefinitely.
What the cast revealed at ViewerCon
Curtis 50 Cent Jackson, Patina Miller and Penn discussed the finale on July 18 in Newark at ViewerCon, a new pop culture convention held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The panel, billed as the Ultimate Raising Kanan Series Finale Panel, was moderated by NBC News contributor Chris Witherspoon. London Brown, who plays Raq’s brother Marvin, and Leslie Grossman also joined the discussion.
Penn told the crowd the final season leaves no question unanswered, closing out the complete story the writers set out to tell five years earlier. Curtis described this season as the moment Kanan finally grasps the damage he has caused, arguing that what looks like indifference from his character is closer to quiet shock at how far things have gone. Miller reflected on how much of herself she poured into playing Raq across five seasons, calling the role one of the most rewarding stretches of her career, even during its hardest moments.
What comes next for the Power universe
Raising Kanan ending does not mean the world Starz built around it is finished. Penn is also the creator behind the upcoming prequel Power Origins, and the ViewerCon panel doubled as an early preview of where the franchise heads next. The panel led directly into an advance screening of Fightland, a new Starz crime drama executive produced by Curtis 50 Cent Jackson. That series airs new episodes throughout August alongside Raising Kanan’s final run.
For now, the focus stays on the Thomas family. With one gunshot still unexplained and two episodes left to explain it, Raising Kanan is closing the way it opened, betting the answer was worth the wait.
