Courtney Clenney has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli.
The former OnlyFans model accepted a plea deal Monday, Aug. 10, ending a case that had been headed toward a murder trial. Clenney, 30, was originally charged with second-degree murder in connection with Obumseli’s death.
Under the agreement, Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison followed by five years of probation. Because she has already spent nearly four years in custody, she is expected to serve roughly two additional years behind bars.
Courtney Clenney Admits Fatal Stabbing
Obumseli, 27, was fatally stabbed inside the Miami condo he shared with Clenney on April 3, 2022.
Clenney has maintained that she acted in self-defense. According to her account, the couple was arguing when Obumseli allegedly attacked her, prompting her to throw a knife at him.
However, prosecutors challenged her version of events. Evidence in the case included surveillance footage and videos documenting physical altercations between the couple. A medical examiner also disputed aspects of Clenney’s account of how the fatal wound occurred.
Clenney’s defense team has argued that she was the victim of domestic violence and that the relationship was volatile. Her attorneys maintained that the evidence did not tell the entire story of what happened between the couple.
Obumseli’s family has strongly rejected the portrayal of him as an aggressor. His loved ones have described him as kind, compassionate and respectful.
Christian Obumseli’s Family Avoids Trial
The plea agreement means Obumseli’s family will not have to go through a lengthy murder trial nearly four years after his death.
Clenney had been held in custody since her arrest in Hawaii in August 2022. She was later extradited to Florida to face the murder charge.
The case attracted widespread attention because of Clenney’s online presence. She was known as Courtney Tailor on social media and had built a large following before her arrest.
The prosecution had accused Clenney of being responsible for Obumseli’s death, while her defense continued to point to alleged domestic violence within the relationship.
Clenney Could Be Released in About 2 Years
Clenney’s six-year prison sentence includes credit for the time she has already spent behind bars.
Following her prison sentence, she will serve five years of probation. The negotiated agreement therefore gives Clenney a defined path toward eventual release while resolving the murder case without a trial.
The plea also changes the legal outcome from the second-degree murder charge Clenney originally faced to manslaughter with a deadly weapon.
For Obumseli’s family, the agreement closes a case that began with his death in a Miami high-rise in 2022. For Clenney, it means she will remain incarcerated for the foreseeable future before beginning her probation.
The case had been scheduled to move toward trial, but the plea deal ultimately brought the proceedings to an end.
