A Detroit gas station has been closed following a two month police investigation into a complaint that cannabis products were allegedly being sold to minors. The Detroit Police Department announced the closure Friday, Aug. 14, after investigators examined activity at a Citgo station in the 13000 block of East Seven Mile Road.
How the investigation started
Police Chief Todd Bettison said the investigation began after a complaint from a member of the community. Investigators then conducted undercover operations to determine whether the allegations were supported by evidence. That work continued for about two months. Eventually, the investigation led police to obtain a search warrant for the business. Officials have not released the identity of the person who originally reported the activity.
What the search turned up
Investigators carried out the search on July 30, according to police. During the search, authorities reported finding more than 250 pre rolled cannabis cigarettes and 17 THC vape pens. Police also reported finding approximately $397,000 in cash at the business. Five firearms were discovered as well, and police said one of them had previously been reported stolen. The findings prompted officials to close the business.
Police have not said whether the reported cannabis sales involved every item discovered during the search. They also have not provided additional details about how investigators believe the products were being distributed.

No arrests announced yet
Despite the findings, no arrests had been made as of Friday. Authorities have not announced whether charges will be filed against anyone connected with the business. The investigation remains active, and officials could provide additional information as they continue reviewing the evidence collected during the search. The department has not said how long the gas station will remain closed or whether the business will eventually be allowed to reopen.
