Law Roach is opening up about his long-standing fashion choices for Zendaya. The celebrity stylist recently revealed why he continues to exclude several major fashion houses from the actress’ red carpet wardrobe.
Roach discussed his relationship with Zendaya and his approach to fashion during an appearance on Ziwe Fumudoh’s You’d Be an Iconic Guest podcast on Aug. 16. He also reflected on his personal journey with what he described as “pettiness.”
Law Roach explains Zendaya’s fashion blacklist
For years, Roach has avoided dressing Zendaya in designs from several major fashion brands. Those houses include Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentino, Chanel and Gucci.
According to Roach, the decision dates back to the early days of Zendaya’s career. At the time, some fashion houses reportedly declined opportunities to dress the young actress because they did not view her as an established enough star.
Roach has not forgotten those experiences.
Although he said he has worked on letting go of past grudges, he remains firm about keeping certain brands away from Zendaya’s major red carpet appearances.
Zendaya and Law Roach have built a strong bond
The stylist and actress have worked together for years and have become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable fashion teams.
Roach has helped create many of Zendaya’s memorable red carpet moments. Their approach often connects her outfits to the films and projects she promotes, creating a style story that goes beyond simply wearing a designer gown.
Their professional relationship has also grown into a close personal friendship. Roach has previously described Zendaya as someone who holds several important roles in his life.
That trust has helped the pair develop a consistent creative vision.
Law Roach says some grudges remain
Roach acknowledged that he has changed his approach to some of his past frustrations. However, that personal growth has not completely changed his professional decisions.
Interestingly, he has worn some of the brands he once avoided for Zendaya himself. Yet when it comes to putting those labels on Zendaya for a red carpet, he continues to draw a line.
Valentino is a notable exception because Zendaya eventually wore the fashion house’s designs publicly as part of a contractual relationship.
Roach’s comments have renewed interest in the power dynamics between celebrities, stylists and major fashion houses.
Law Roach and Zendaya continue their fashion partnership
Despite the fashion industry’s shifting relationships, Roach and Zendaya continue to work together on major appearances.
Their recent projects include Zendaya’s promotional appearances for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Roach has continued using fashion to create looks that generate conversation while connecting to Zendaya’s work.
For Roach, styling Zendaya appears to be about more than securing the biggest designer names. His choices reflect the history between his client and the fashion industry, as well as the creative control they have developed over the years.
Ultimately, the Law Roach Zendaya partnership remains one of Hollywood’s most closely watched celebrity-stylist collaborations. And based on Roach’s latest comments, some fashion houses may still have a long way to go before returning to Zendaya’s red carpet rotation.
