A new Wisconsin storm watch has put three southeastern counties on alert as another round of storms moves toward the area this evening.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Jefferson, Kenosha and Walworth counties through 10 p.m. The main threats include strong winds and hail. An isolated tornado also remains possible.
Storms could move through between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. as a cold front crosses the region.
Wisconsin counties under the storm watch
The watch covers Jefferson, Kenosha and Walworth counties.
The overall severe weather risk has eased across much of southeastern Wisconsin. Still, Kenosha and Walworth counties remain at level 2 out of 5 on the severe weather scale. Much of the surrounding area sits at level 1. That means some places may see only regular thunderstorms. Stronger storms could bring more serious weather in other areas.
When today storms could arrive
The second round of storms should arrive between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
A cold front will push through during that period. As a result, weather conditions could change quickly through the evening. The strongest storms may bring gusty winds and hail. Forecasters also say an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. For that reason, people in the watch area should keep weather alerts close at hand.
Strong winds and hail remain the main concerns
Strong winds are one of the biggest threats this evening. Hail could also develop in stronger storms. Both hazards can cause problems for drivers, homes and outdoor events.
Meanwhile, the tornado risk appears limited. However, a small chance remains as storms move through. Weather watches also do not mean every location will experience severe weather. Instead, they signal that conditions could support stronger storms.
The weekend forecast looks calmer
The weather should improve after tonight. Saturday could bring a few afternoon showers or storms near the lake breeze. Rain chances should stay fairly low across the area. Sunday looks more settled. Forecasters expect plenty of sunshine, lower humidity and highs in the mid-70s.
Still, this evening deserves the most attention. Anyone in the watch area should check updated forecasts before leaving home. It also helps to have at least two ways to receive weather alerts.
