The revolution is beginning in Panem. “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” has released its official trailer ahead of the highly anticipated November 2026 theatrical debut.
The new film takes fans back to the world of Panem, 24 years before the events of the original “The Hunger Games.” This time, the story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy as he enters the arena during the 50th Hunger Games.
Haymitch faces the Second Quarter Quell
Joseph Zada stars as 16-year-old Haymitch, who comes from District 12. His story begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
The special Games bring an even greater threat. Twice as many tributes will enter the arena, making the competition more dangerous than previous Games.
As Haymitch fights to survive, he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner, played by Mckenna Grace. He also joins a group determined to challenge the Capitol’s control.
However, surviving the arena is only part of Haymitch’s battle. He eventually risks everything to fight against the Games from within.
Ralph Fiennes takes on President Snow
The upcoming film also introduces a new portrayal of President Snow, with Ralph Fiennes taking on the role.
The story explores the early forces that eventually lead to the rebellion that changes Panem forever. As Haymitch confronts the Capitol, his actions begin setting the stage for the resistance that audiences know from the original franchise.
The film is based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel “Sunrise on the Reaping.”
New Hunger Games cast joins Joseph Zada
“Sunrise on the Reaping” features a major ensemble cast alongside Zada and Grace.
Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak and Kelvin Harrison Jr. also star in the film.
Francis Lawrence directs the movie, with Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie credited for the screenplay. Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Lawrence serve as producers.
The new posters and images also offer a closer look at Zada, Plemons, Fiennes, Close, Fanning and Lawrence.
When does Sunrise on the Reaping release?
“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” will arrive exclusively in theaters on November 20, 2026.
The film has not yet received an official rating.
With Haymitch at the center of the story, the latest chapter promises to reveal the events that helped shape one of Panem’s most important rebellions.
