A family of federal agents faces its most dangerous case yet when a deadly conspiracy threatens to tear them apart in NBC’s new crime drama “Line of Fire.”
The series premiered on NBC on Sept. 21, introducing viewers to the Hollingsworth family, whose members work across some of the most powerful federal agencies in the country. The family includes agents connected to the Secret Service, FBI, U.S. Marshals and Department of Justice.
However, protecting others becomes much harder when the danger reaches their own home.
Line of Fire follows a family with federal badges
“Line of Fire” centers on the Hollingsworths, a family whose professional lives are closely tied to law enforcement.
Peter Krause stars as Mike Hollingsworth, a veteran Secret Service agent nearing retirement. Hope Davis plays his wife, Jane, a U.S. Marshal. Their children also work in federal service, creating a family dynamic where professional responsibilities can easily collide with personal relationships.
Kat Cunning plays Clare Hollingsworth, an FBI agent. Tommy O’Brien portrays Mike “Micah” Hollingsworth Jr., who works for the Secret Service like his father. Taylor Bloom plays Russ Hollingsworth, who works with the Department of Justice. Charlie Barnett also appears in the cast.
That combination gives the series an unusual family setup. The characters may share the same last name, but they do not always share the same approach to their work or each other.
A routine case becomes a deadly conspiracy
The central story begins when what appears to be a straightforward case takes a dangerous turn.
The family must draw on years of experience protecting civilians and political figures as they investigate a conspiracy involving a killer. Their professional knowledge becomes essential, but following the rules may not be enough to keep them alive.
As the danger grows, the Hollingsworths face another challenge. They must decide how far they are willing to cross professional boundaries to protect one another.
That tension sits at the heart of “Line of Fire.” The show combines federal investigations with family conflict, creating stakes that reach beyond solving a single case.
Peter Krause and Hope Davis lead the cast
Krause leads the ensemble as Mike, a Secret Service veteran dealing with the final stage of his federal career.
Davis plays Jane, whose work as a U.S. Marshal gives the family another connection to federal law enforcement. Their children add FBI, Secret Service and Justice Department perspectives to the story.
The series comes from creator and writer Joshua Safran, who also serves as an executive producer. Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector are executive producers as well. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces the series.
Bush Hager has also discussed how her experience growing up in the White House informed her connection to the project. She worked with Safran and consulted with professionals connected to agencies including the Secret Service, FBI and U.S. Marshals.
“Line of Fire” brings family drama into federal investigations
Unlike a traditional crime procedural, “Line of Fire” places the family at the center of the mystery.
The Hollingsworths have demanding careers, complicated relationships and secrets that can affect their work. The result is a story where a case can become personal before anyone realizes how deeply they are involved.
The first episode also introduces a major mystery involving the family, setting up questions that the series plans to explore throughout the season.
“Line of Fire” airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, with episodes available to stream on Peacock.
