The Emmys officially have a new streaming home.
Amazon has closed a major deal with the Television Academy to stream the annual Emmy Awards for the next six years. The agreement gives Prime Video global rights to the ceremony.
The deal reportedly has a total value of more than $120 million.
Amazon secures global Emmy rights
Under the new agreement, Prime Video will stream the Emmys worldwide each September. However, viewers will not need a Prime membership to watch the ceremony.
Amazon plans to make the annual broadcast free on Prime Video.
The deal marks a major shift for the television awards show. It also gives Amazon a larger role in one of the entertainment industry’s biggest annual events.
The partnership follows reports last month that Amazon was close to securing the Emmy rights.
Prime Video will stream the Emmys
The six-year agreement gives Amazon exclusive streaming rights to the ceremony. As a result, viewers around the world will have access through Prime Video.
The Emmy Awards celebrate achievements across television. Each year, the ceremony brings together major stars, creators and industry leaders.
Now, Amazon will handle the global streaming platform for the event.
The deal also expands Prime Video’s growing presence in live entertainment. The streamer has continued to add major events to its programming lineup.
For Emmy viewers, the biggest change will be where they watch the ceremony. Starting with the new agreement, Prime Video will offer the event free each September.
