Amazon shoppers who had problems getting refunds for returned products may be eligible for part of a $309.5 million settlement.
The settlement covers certain customers who initiated a return or requested a refund for a physical product bought through Amazon.com and received in the United States. The covered period runs from Sept. 5, 2017, through Feb. 12, 2026.
However, not every eligible customer needs to submit a claim. The settlement divides members into two groups. Some customers will receive payments automatically, while others must file a claim by Dec. 1, 2026.
Who may qualify for the Amazon settlement
Customers may fall within the settlement if Amazon failed to issue a refund, issued it late or refunded the wrong amount. The class also covers some customers who received a refund and were later charged again for the returned product.
The settlement applies to qualifying physical products sold through Amazon.com and received in the U.S. during the covered period.
Your settlement notice should indicate whether you belong to Subclass A or Subclass B.
Some shoppers do not need to file
Subclass A members are scheduled to receive payments automatically. They do not need to submit a claim form.
Subclass B members must submit an eligible claim. The official settlement website says those claims must be submitted by Dec. 1, 2026.
For a Subclass B claim, shoppers may need information such as their Notice ID, order number, product description, refund request date and refund amount. Supporting proof may also be requested.
How to check your claim status
Customers should use the official settlement website to review their notice and determine what action applies to them.
The official site is ReturnSettlement.com. It also lists the settlement administrator’s phone number as 888-553-4246.
There is no published standard payment amount. The amount a customer receives can depend on the qualifying refund issue and the number of approved claims.
When could payments arrive
The settlement has not received final court approval yet. The court scheduled a final approval hearing for March 16, 2027. The official settlement website says payments will not be provided unless the court approves the agreement and it becomes final.
Amazon has denied wrongdoing. The settlement resolves the allegations without an admission of liability. Court documents also say Amazon agreed to changes aimed at improving its return and refund processes.
For shoppers who received a settlement notice, the most important date is Dec. 1, 2026. That is the deadline for eligible Subclass B customers to submit a claim.
