One of tennis’s most beloved partnerships is back. Venus and Serena Williams will compete in women’s doubles together at Wimbledon this year for the first time in a decade. The Venus Serena Williams Wimbledon doubles 2026 reunion comes after the sisters received a wildcard for the tournament. The All England Club’s official Instagram account announced the news alongside a photo of the pair on court, captioned simply Back together, at Wimbledon. The 2026 Wimbledon Championships run from June 29 to July 12 in London.
A partnership with an extraordinary record
The Williams sisters are not strangers to Wimbledon doubles glory. Together, they have won the women’s doubles title at the Championships 6 times. Their first victory came in 2000. Their most recent came in 2016, which was also the last year they entered the draw as a pair. Over a span of nearly two decades, their doubles partnership at Wimbledon became one of the most decorated in the history of the tournament.
The 2026 appearance marks their return to the draw after a 10-year gap. Neither sister has received a singles wildcard, though the BBC noted that one spot in the singles draw remains open at the time of writing. The women’s doubles field at this year’s championship features 128 players.
Serena’s comeback tour builds momentum
The Wimbledon wildcard arrives during what has been a remarkable stretch of activity for Serena, 44. She made her professional comeback at the Queen’s Club in London earlier this month — nearly four years after her last competitive match at the 2022 US Open. At Queen’s, Serena and her doubles partner, 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko, defeated Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in their opening match on June 9. Husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughters Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2, cheered her on from the stands.
However, the Queen’s run came to an early end when Mboko suffered an injury during a singles match. She withdrew from the tournament and addressed Serena directly afterward, expressing gratitude for the experience and hope that the two would play together again.
This week, Serena continues her return to the tour as she partners with Czech player Karolína Muchová at the German Open in Berlin. Their campaign began on Tuesday, June 16. Muchová described the opportunity to play alongside Serena as something that does not happen every day, and expressed excitement ahead of their first match together.
Serena has also not ruled out a return to singles competition. At a press conference before Queen’s, she told reporters she could not say no to the idea but acknowledged she might need to train a little more before committing.
Venus at 45 and still competing
Venus, 45, brings her own remarkable story to Wimbledon 2026. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion — five of those titles coming at Wimbledon — has had a mixed 2026 campaign in singles, losing all seven of her singles matches this season according to the BBC. Nevertheless, she did win a doubles match at the Madrid Open in April, showing she remains competitive in the format.
Venus was also set to play doubles with fellow American Hailey Baptiste at the French Open last month. That would have marked her return to Roland Garros after a five-year absence. However, the pair withdrew on the morning of their first-round match with no reason given by organizers.
What the reunion means for tennis
The Williams sisters at Wimbledon even in doubles carries a weight that few sporting reunions can match. Between them, they have shaped professional tennis for more than two decades. Their presence together on the grass courts at the All England Club is both a celebration of their individual legacies and a reminder of what made their partnership so special in the first place.
For fans who have followed them since their first Wimbledon doubles title in 2000, the reunion is a chance to witness something they may not see again. For a new generation discovering them during Serena’s comeback, it is an introduction to a partnership that defined an era.
Wimbledon begins June 29.
