A 13-year-old Georgia girl believed to have been abducted early Thursday morning has been found safe. Authorities canceled the statewide alert this morning after locating Layla Alexis Nubian Carter in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a Levi’s Call, the state’s version of an Amber Alert, on Thursday after investigators said Carter had been abducted from a home on James Drive in Baxley, Georgia, around 1 a.m. Authorities said she was last seen wearing pajama bottoms and a T-shirt. Officials named 32-year-old Giavannie Alexis Carter as the suspected abductor and said Layla may have been in extreme danger.
How authorities located Layla Carter
Investigators released information about a gray 2019 Jeep Renegade they believed the pair could have been traveling in, hoping the vehicle description would help the public assist in locating them. Law enforcement in Jacksonville, Florida, ultimately located Carter Thursday night, following the statewide alert that had gone out earlier that day.
Officials have not released details about the circumstances of her recovery. Authorities have also not confirmed whether Giavannie Alexis Carter is currently in custody. No information about Layla’s physical condition has been shared publicly.

The investigation remains active. Law enforcement has not disclosed whether criminal charges are expected or what led investigators to Jacksonville specifically. Authorities have offered no additional information about what happened between the time Layla was last seen in Baxley and when she was found roughly 20 hours later in Florida.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation canceled the Levi’s Call this morning, confirming Layla’s safety to the public. Beyond that confirmation, officials have kept most details of the case private while the investigation continues.
