The third day of the Tupac Shakur murder trial brought new attention to Duane “Keffe D” Davis’ relationship with law enforcement and allegations involving Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Davis is accused of orchestrating the 1996 killing of Shakur in Las Vegas. He has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
Tupac murder trial focuses on Davis and the FBI
During Day 3 of the trial, jurors heard details about Davis’ interactions with law enforcement. The proceedings also explored how Davis became a confidential informant and later worked undercover.
A key part of the testimony involved allegations Davis made about Combs.
According to the BBC, Davis told authorities that Combs had offered money for Tupac and Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight to be killed.
However, the allegations did not result in evidence that established Combs’ involvement in Shakur’s murder.
FBI investigation examined Bad Boy and Death Row
The court also heard about an FBI investigation involving the rivalry between Combs’ Bad Boy Records and Shakur’s Death Row Records.
The feud between the two record labels became one of the defining tensions in 1990s hip-hop. Shakur and Knight were closely associated with Death Row, while Combs led Bad Boy Records alongside artists including The Notorious B.I.G.
The FBI investigation examined allegations surrounding the rivalry. However, jurors were told that investigators did not find evidence at the time connecting Combs to Tupac’s killing.
That distinction remains important as the trial continues. Allegations presented in court are not the same as findings of guilt.
Who is Duane “Keffe D” Davis?
Davis has long been linked to the events surrounding Shakur’s death. Prosecutors accuse him of helping orchestrate the shooting that killed the rapper.
Shakur was fatally shot in Las Vegas on Sept. 7, 1996, after attending a Mike Tyson boxing match with Knight.
The case remained unsolved for decades before authorities arrested Davis in 2023.
Davis has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty. His trial is now examining the evidence and testimony surrounding one of hip-hop’s most enduring mysteries.
What happened on Day 3 of the Tupac trial?
Day 3 provided jurors with more information about Davis’ history with law enforcement. His role as a confidential informant became an important part of the proceedings.
The testimony also revisited allegations involving Combs and the FBI’s investigation into the relationship between Bad Boy Records and Death Row Records.
While Davis allegedly told investigators that Combs wanted Tupac and Knight killed, the court heard that the FBI investigation did not produce evidence of Combs’ involvement.
The trial is expected to continue examining Davis’ statements, his relationship with law enforcement and the evidence prosecutors say connects him to Shakur’s death.
Tupac murder trial continues in Las Vegas
The trial is taking place in Las Vegas, where Shakur was killed nearly 30 years ago.
The proceedings have attracted worldwide attention because of the rapper’s lasting influence and the decades-long search for answers in his death.
As the case continues, testimony from witnesses and evidence presented in court could provide further insight into what happened before, during and after the 1996 shooting.
