Hey, y’all! Welcome back to According to Porsha, your go-to spot for culture, excellence and authenticity.
It’s time for another edition of Haute to Watch. This week brings a mix of suspense, family drama, cultural differences and comedy. Whether you’re looking for something gripping or simply want a good laugh, these picks deserve a place on your weekend watchlist.
Nocturne brings suspense to Apple TV
First up is Nocturne, premiering Friday on Apple TV.
Zazie Beetz stars as FBI agent Saga Bauer. She goes undercover to confront a serial killer while searching for his final missing victim. Liv Schreiber and Stephen Graham also star in the production.
Saga’s assignment puts her at the center of a tense investigation. However, I’m particularly interested in how the series develops her character. Will she get the opportunity to lead the story on her own terms?
I’m adding this one to my watchlist to see how the drama unfolds.
Netflix explores family and cultural differences
Next, Netflix brings viewers How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents.
The story follows Mbatha, a Black South African woman whose secret engagement brings two very different families together. Her Zulu family must meet her fiancé’s traditional Indian family.
Naturally, the gathering comes with expectations. However, things take an unexpected turn when Mbatha exposes her future father-in-law’s affair.
What begins as an attempt to impress everyone quickly becomes a complicated family situation. The story combines romance, cultural differences and family tensions. It also explores the challenges that can arise when two families with different traditions come together.
Zainab Johnson brings her comedy to Netflix
For viewers who prefer comedy, Zainab Johnson has a new stand-up special on Netflix titled Toxically Optimistic.
Johnson takes on several subjects, including a gun revelation and a Tesla crisis. Throughout the special, she maintains her determination to find something positive in almost everything.
Her approach offers a different take on everyday frustrations and unexpected situations. Moreover, the special gives comedy fans another reason to check out Netflix this weekend.
Love & Marriage: Huntsville returns
Finally, reality television fans can catch Love & Marriage: Huntsville on OWN Saturday night.
The series joins this week’s entertainment lineup for viewers who enjoy relationship stories and reality television. It rounds out a weekend that offers something different for several viewing preferences.
From the suspense surrounding Nocturne to Johnson’s unusual approach to comedy, this week’s selections cover different sides of entertainment.
So, which one deserves your screen time? That’s the question I’m leaving you with until the next edition of Haute to Watch.
