For nearly two decades, the UNCF Student Leadership Conference has created a direct pathway between talented students and major corporations invested in shaping future leaders. Now in its 17th year, the highly anticipated event will once again gather more than 220 undergraduate students in Washington, D.C., for an immersive, multi-day experience focused on career readiness and leadership development.
Scheduled from May 27 to May 30 at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, the conference will connect rising juniors and seniors from colleges across the United States, including historically Black colleges and universities, with influential corporate leaders and industry professionals.
The event is designed to go beyond traditional networking by offering students hands-on training, practical insights and direct exposure to Fortune 500 companies committed to creating career opportunities.
Access to top companies shaping future careers
One of the defining elements of the conference is the opportunity for students to engage directly with major corporations such as Wells Fargo and The Walt Disney Company. These organizations play a key role in delivering presentations and leading discussions centered on professional development.
Students gain firsthand knowledge of what it takes to succeed in competitive industries, while also building connections that can lead to internships and full-time roles. The conference serves as a bridge between academic learning and real-world application, helping students better understand corporate expectations.
Immersive leadership and training experience
Participants are not just observers but active contributors in an intensive training simulation designed to mirror real workplace challenges. Guided by experienced business and nonprofit professionals, students are coached through scenarios that strengthen their decision-making, communication and leadership skills.
This hands-on approach ensures that attendees leave the conference with practical tools they can immediately apply in internships and early career roles. The focus is on preparing students to thrive, not just participate, in professional environments.
A return story that inspires the next generation

Among this year’s highlights is the return of Jaylen Holmes, a former participant who has gone on to build a successful career with The Walt Disney Company. A graduate of Miles College, Holmes previously attended the conference and later secured an internship that helped launch his professional journey.
Now returning as a speaker, he will share insights from his experience and offer guidance to current attendees. His story reflects the long-term impact of the conference and underscores the opportunities available to students who take part.
Leadership driven by vision and impact
The conference is led by Arnika Jackson, director of student professional development programs at UNCF. Under her leadership, the event has evolved into a nationally recognized platform for cultivating leadership among HBCU students.
Her approach focuses on building strong partnerships with organizations such as National Geographic, Fidelity Investments and Exelon to create programs that extend beyond traditional internships. These initiatives emphasize mentorship, career exposure and real-world experience, helping students develop both confidence and competence.
Strengthening the pipeline of future leaders
At its core, the conference reflects UNCF’s broader mission to support higher education and expand opportunities for students. Since its founding in 1944, the organization has raised billions to provide scholarships and strengthen colleges, supporting tens of thousands of students each year.
The Student Leadership Conference plays a critical role in that mission by equipping participants with the skills, networks and mindset needed to succeed in today’s workforce. By bringing together students, corporate partners and thought leaders, the event helps build a pipeline of diverse professionals prepared to make meaningful contributions in their fields.
As the 17th annual conference approaches, it continues to stand as a powerful example of how education, opportunity and mentorship can come together to shape the next generation of leaders.
