
The 2025 ABFF Honors was a night of prestige, celebration, and cultural impact, bringing together some of Hollywood’s most influential Black creatives. Held on February 17 at the luxurious SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, the ceremony honored legendary performers and rising stars who have shaped the industry with their talent, resilience, and commitment to authentic storytelling. Hosted by actress and comedian Zainab Johnson, the event was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and the ongoing legacy of Black excellence in film and television.
From industry veterans to new trailblazers, this year’s honorees reflected the depth and diversity of Black talent in Hollywood. Giancarlo Esposito and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor were both recognized with the Excellence in the Arts Award for their dynamic contributions to entertainment. Marla Gibbs, a pioneer whose work has paved the way for generations, received the Hollywood Legacy Award. The ever-evolving Keke Palmer was presented with the Renaissance Award for her versatility and impact across multiple platforms, while rising star Aaron Pierre was honored with the Rising Star Award, solidifying his status as one to watch.

A Night of Celebration and Black Excellence
The event, produced by Jeff Friday and Nicole Friday of NICE CROWD, alongside industry powerhouses Suzanne de Passe and Rikki Hughes, served as a testament to the ABFF’s ongoing mission: elevating and amplifying Black creatives in Hollywood. With a live musical performance, including a stirring set by Aloe Blacc, and heartfelt acceptance speeches, the evening was a powerful reminder of the richness and depth of Black storytelling.
On the teal carpet, Hollywood’s finest turned out to support the honorees, including Anthony Mackie, Boots Riley, Cory Hardrict, LisaRaye McCoy, Loretta Devine, Lance Gross, Larenz Tate, Michael Jai White, Tika Sumpter, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Yvonne Orji. Their presence underscored the importance of celebrating Black artists who continue to break barriers and redefine the industry.


Honoring Trailblazers and Future Icons
Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, celebrated for her powerful performances in King Richard and The Color Purple, delivered an emotional speech about the significance of Black women’s stories being told authentically.
Marla Gibbs, a living legend whose career spans decades, received a standing ovation as she accepted her Hollywood Legacy Award. Known for her iconic role as Florence Johnston in The Jeffersons and Mary Jenkins in 227, Gibbs reflected on her journey and the importance of perseverance.
“If you had not watched, I would not be. But since you watched, I am. And I owe it all to you. I appreciate you so much. It’s been an honor to be among you all these years, and I’m ready to do some more!”
Keke Palmer, who has seamlessly transitioned from child star to powerhouse actress, producer, and media mogul, was honored for her multifaceted career.
Aaron Pierre, an emerging star whose performances in The Underground Railroad and Mufasa: The Lion King have captivated audiences, expressed gratitude for being recognized among such esteemed company.
Giancarlo Esposito, an acting titan known for his commanding performances in Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and Godfather of Harlem, received the Excellence in the Arts Award. A master of his craft with a career spanning decades, Esposito took the stage with his signature charisma, thanking the ABFF for championing Black artists.
Esposito’s ability to transform every role into an unforgettable experience has solidified his status as one of Hollywood’s finest actors. His honor at ABFF Honors 2025 is a testament to his dedication, artistry, and continued influence in the entertainment industry.
