
The 2025 ABFF Honors took center stage on Monday, February 17, at the luxurious SLS in Beverly Hills, bringing together Hollywood’s finest to celebrate Black excellence in film and television. Hosted by actress and comedian Zainab Johnson, the prestigious event honored industry trailblazers whose work has shaped the cultural landscape.

This year’s honorees represented a spectrum of brilliance, each leaving their own respective lasting mark on the industry. Giancarlo Esposito and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor were both recognized with the Excellence in the Arts Award, acknowledging their powerful performances and longstanding contributions to cinema and television. The legendary Marla Gibbs was celebrated with the Hollywood Legacy Award, honoring her groundbreaking career spanning decades. Newcomer Aaron Pierre received the Rising Star Award, solidifying his place as one to watch in the industry. Meanwhile, multi-talented actress and entrepreneur Keke Palmer was awarded the Renaissance Award, highlighting her dynamic and ever-evolving career.

ABFF Honors Executive Producers Jeff Friday (Founder & CEO, NICE CROWD), Nicole Friday (President, NICE CROWD), Suzanne de Passe (Co-Chairman, de Passe Jones Entertainment Group), and Rikki Hughes (Executive Producer, Magic Lemonade) ensured the evening was an unforgettable experience. The night was further elevated by a soulful musical performance from Aloe Blacc, setting the perfect tone for an evening of celebration and reflection.

The star-studded red carpet saw a dazzling array of esteemed guests, including Anthony Mackie, Boots Riley, Charles King, Cory Hardrict, Dondre and Sally Richardson-Whitfield, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Lance Gross, Larenz Tate, LisaRaye McCoy, Loretta Devine, Michael Jai White and his wife, Tika Sumpter, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Yvonne Orji. Their presence underscored the significance of the ABFF Honors as a space for recognizing the impact and legacy of Black artists in Hollywood.

The ABFF Honors continues to stand as an annual of recognition of Black excellence in entertainment, TV and Film, ensuring that Black creatives receive the accolades they deserve. Since its inception, the American Black Film Festival, founded by Jeff Friday in 1997, has been a platform dedicated to championing diversity in Hollywood. The Honors event extends that mission by spotlighting the achievements of those who have paved the way and those who are shaping the future of entertainment.
As the night concluded, the message was clear: Black storytelling is powerful, necessary, and worthy of the highest accolades. With another successful celebration in the books, the ABFF Honors 2025 once again solidified its place as the gold standard in recognizing and uplifting Black excellence in Hollywood.
