The Katt Williams TextNow campaign is taking aim at costly wireless plans with a new national advertising push called “Way Too Smart To Pay Dumb.”
TextNow launched its biggest brand campaign yet on July 28, 2026, featuring the comedian, actor, and entrepreneur as the face of its effort to encourage consumers to rethink traditional phone services.
The campaign also features the late Nipsey Hussle’s song “U See Us,” highlighting themes of independence, ownership, and personal control.
Katt Williams promotes smarter wireless choices
Through the campaign, Williams challenges consumers to question expensive contracts, hidden fees, and long-term commitments often associated with traditional wireless providers.
The campaign presents TextNow as an alternative for people looking for more flexibility with their mobile service.
Williams said the campaign represents a message of independence and encourages people to avoid paying more than necessary to stay connected.
He added that consumers should have control over their phone plans instead of allowing complicated contracts and high bills to determine their choices.
TextNow highlights flexible mobile service options
TextNow says its platform combines features from traditional wireless providers with a more flexible payment approach.
The service offers users a free phone number, nationwide 5G connectivity, and quick activation through eSIM technology.
Customers can start with unlimited talk and text at no monthly cost. They can also add data plans based on their needs through daily, weekly, or monthly options.
Additionally, users can switch between paid and free options without cancellation fees or long-term commitments.
Company says Katt Williams represents campaign message
TextNow founder and CEO Derek Ting said Williams was chosen because of his reputation for doing things differently.
According to Ting, the comedian’s independent approach to entertainment reflects the company’s goal of giving consumers more control over their spending.
TextNow said the campaign focuses on people who want more freedom when choosing services and managing their expenses.
TextNow Rewards adds new payment flexibility
The company also highlighted its TextNow Rewards program as part of its broader mission.
Through the program, customers can earn points through app activity, partner offers, and daily engagement.
Users can redeem those points for data passes and premium features. They can also combine points with cash payments when needed.
TextNow said the program creates another way for customers to access mobile services without relying only on traditional monthly bills.
Campaign brings together major creative partners
The “Way Too Smart To Pay Dumb” campaign was developed through a collaboration between several agency partners.
Currency Advisory Group led the strategic direction, while Mass Appeal helped connect the brand with Williams and supported cultural outreach.
Burrell Communications created the campaign’s creative direction. Meanwhile, DKC managed communications and media strategy.
Together, the teams built a campaign centered on consumer awareness and the idea that people should question systems that may not serve their interests.
TextNow continues push for affordable connectivity
Founded in Waterloo, Ontario, in 2009, TextNow describes itself as the largest ad-supported free wireless service in the United States.
The company provides customers with free talk and text services through its app, along with optional data plans.
With the launch of its new campaign, TextNow hopes to attract consumers who want affordable and flexible alternatives to traditional wireless providers.
