George Clinton took The Breakfast Club on a journey through funk, space, Afrofuturism and technology during his latest interview.
The Parliament-Funkadelic legend appeared on the show Tuesday, Sept. 8, for a wide-ranging conversation with Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy and Jess Hilarious. The official episode also covered Clinton’s legacy, Prince, AI and his vision of the future.
George Clinton Recalls a UFO Encounter
One of the interview’s wildest moments came when Clinton discussed an alleged UFO encounter involving Bootsy Collins.
Clinton recalled traveling along a Canadian country road when he noticed unusual lights and experienced what he described as missing time. He also remembered seeing a strange metallic substance coming from the vehicle.
The experience left Clinton wondering whether he and Collins had been abducted by extraterrestrials.
While there is no independent evidence confirming an alien encounter, Clinton has long connected his music and artistic world to space, science fiction and otherworldly ideas.
George Clinton Helped Shape Afrofuturism
Clinton also reflected on Afrofuturism and the artists who helped shape its musical roots.
His own work with Parliament-Funkadelic became closely associated with the movement through its combination of Black culture, science fiction, space imagery and futuristic storytelling. The National Museum of African American History and Culture identifies Clinton as a major figure whose P-Funk universe blended psychedelia, the Civil Rights Movement and sci-fi influences.
During the interview, Clinton discussed influences and connections involving artists such as Sun Ra, Jimi Hendrix and Prince.
He also shared a memorable story involving Prince. Clinton recalled photographing the superstar in what appeared to be a levitating pose. According to Clinton, the photograph later mysteriously disappeared.
The story fits naturally into Clinton’s larger artistic universe, where music, technology, spirituality and science fiction often collide.
George Clinton Has Thoughts on AI and Virtual Reality
Clinton also turned his attention to the rapidly changing technology landscape.
The funk icon discussed artificial intelligence and virtual reality while predicting that society could experience what he described as a “great disconnect” as digital experiences become increasingly difficult to separate from everyday reality.
His comments come as AI and immersive technologies continue to transform entertainment and social interaction.
For Clinton, however, the future has always been part of the creative conversation. His music helped introduce generations of listeners to a world where spaceships, extraterrestrials and futuristic Black identities could exist at the center of popular music.
The Godfather of Funk Keeps Looking Ahead
At 85, Clinton remains deeply connected to the futuristic ideas that have defined his career.
His latest Breakfast Club appearance showed that the same imagination behind P-Funk’s cosmic mythology remains intact. From a possible UFO encounter to Afrofuturism and artificial intelligence, Clinton continues to look toward worlds beyond the familiar.
