Tyler Perry is preparing for a major change in his life.
The filmmaker, actor and studio owner revealed that he plans to move to Puerto Rico and take a significant step back from the entertainment industry.
Perry made the announcement during a conversation featured on The Breakfast Club. He explained that getting older has changed his priorities.
“I’m officially moving to Puerto Rico,” Perry said. He added that the move will happen at the top of the year.
For Perry, the decision is not about completely leaving Hollywood. Instead, he wants to slow down and spend more time with his son.

Perry said getting older has made him realize that it is time to enjoy life differently.
“Getting older” was one of the reasons he gave for the move. He also emphasized his desire to spend more time with his son and take everything in.
The decision marks a potential shift for someone who has remained deeply involved in his productions.
Perry has built an enormous entertainment empire through films, television and his Tyler Perry Studios complex in Atlanta. Therefore, stepping back could change how closely he is involved in future projects.
However, Perry made it clear that his work will not simply disappear.
During the discussion, the hosts suggested that Perry could continue producing content while allowing other people to handle more of the day-to-day responsibilities.
Perry opens up about marriage
The move is not the only major personal decision Perry recently discussed.
During a conversation with Jennifer Hudson, Perry addressed whether marriage could be part of his future.
His answer was direct: he does not plan to get married.
Perry explained that marriage itself does not bother him. Instead, he said he is concerned about divorce and its potential financial consequences.
“Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce,” Perry said.
As a result, Perry said he is comfortable remaining free rather than getting married.

Perry also offered an unusual insight into his dating life.
He said he has not been on a date in 30 years.
That revelation came during another conversation about marriage and relationships. Perry explained that he could not even remember what was said on his first date because it had been so long.
His comments also raise questions about what dating would look like for someone as famous as Perry.
After decades in the spotlight, a private personal life can be difficult to maintain. Perry has become one of the most recognizable Black figures in entertainment, making ordinary dating experiences much more complicated.
A different chapter for Tyler Perry
Perry’s plans come after decades of building his career and creating opportunities in Hollywood.
He has written, directed, produced and starred in numerous successful projects. More importantly, he has built one of the most recognizable Black-owned entertainment operations in the industry.
His Atlanta studio has also become a major part of his legacy.
Therefore, his decision to slow down does not necessarily mean he is leaving entertainment behind.
Instead, Perry appears ready to let his business continue while he takes a more relaxed role.
At this stage of his life, spending time with his son and enjoying the results of his decades of work seem to be becoming bigger priorities.
For someone who has spent years constantly creating, producing and performing, stepping back could be Perry’s way of making room for a new chapter.
