Porsha Williams has revealed that an emergency hysterectomy earlier this year followed the discovery of 21 uterine fibroids, including one that was about the size of a cantaloupe. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star shared the details in a Glamour essay and an interview with CBS Mornings.
Williams, 45, said doctors discovered the fibroids during an appointment she attended while considering whether to freeze her eggs. She had dealt with fibroids since her late 20s and had previously undergone treatment intended to shrink them while preserving her uterus.
Porsha Williams discovers the fibroids had returned
Williams had experienced symptoms including long menstrual cycles, migraines and fatigue. She initially wondered whether the changes were linked to perimenopause.
During the fertility appointment, however, a routine examination raised concerns. She was sent to a specialist and then for an MRI. The doctors found a much larger number of fibroids than Williams had expected.
Her condition also involved endometriosis and another issue affecting the uterine lining, according to her Glamour account.
Williams had hoped to preserve her ability to have more children. She is already a mother to daughter Pilar, whom she welcomed in 2019 after previously experiencing a miscarriage. The new diagnosis changed those plans.

The emergency surgery changed her fertility
Williams said her doctors determined that she needed a hysterectomy. She underwent the operation in May 2026, with her ovaries preserved. During the procedure, doctors found 21 fibroids in total, with the largest measuring about the size of a cantaloupe.
The surgery ended Williams’ ability to carry another pregnancy and also meant she could no longer retrieve eggs for a future surrogate pregnancy. She described the loss of that possibility as an emotional part of her recovery.
At the same time, Williams said her physical health improved after the procedure. She later connected several problems, including migraines and low iron levels, to the fibroids. She also said the growths had become large enough to interfere with sexual activity and put pressure on her bladder.
Williams wants women to advocate for their health
Williams is now using her experience to encourage women to take persistent symptoms seriously and speak openly with their doctors.
Her story also highlights the emotional side of reproductive health decisions. Although she has described the hysterectomy as something she did not have a choice about, she said the procedure has improved her quality of life.
Williams said she wants other women to ask questions rather than assume symptoms are simply part of aging or hormonal changes. Her disclosure comes as she continues to appear on reality television, including The Traitors and The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.
