Lewis Hamilton is celebrating a major cultural moment alongside George Lucas and Mellody Hobson as the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art prepares to welcome the public in Los Angeles.
The Formula 1 champion attended the museum’s opening-night celebration on Saturday, September 19, where he served as one of the event’s co-chairs. The star-studded celebration brought together artists, filmmakers, entertainers and cultural leaders at the new museum in Exposition Park.
Hamilton later shared his excitement about the milestone on Instagram. He praised his longtime friends George Lucas and Mellody Hobson for the work behind the museum and reflected on the opportunity to watch the project develop over the past eight years.

For Hamilton, the Lucas Museum represents more than another major attraction in Los Angeles.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion highlighted the importance of access and spaces that encourage people to explore their creativity. He also emphasized the value of seeing personal stories represented and recognized.
That message closely connects with the museum’s stated mission. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art focuses on visual storytelling across cultures and generations, bringing together paintings, illustrations, comics, photography, murals and cinematic works.
The museum was founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson. Together, they developed the institution around the idea that storytelling through images can connect people and reflect the human experience.

The opening marks a significant moment for Lucas and Hobson after years of planning and development.
The museum spans 300,000 square feet and includes 35 galleries across 100,000 square feet of exhibition space. Its collection contains more than 40,000 works of narrative art, covering everything from illustration and comic art to film-related pieces.
The building also features a 13-acre campus in Exposition Park. Its design comes from architect Ma Yansong, while the surrounding landscape was designed by Mia Lehrer and Studio-MLA.
Hamilton’s involvement adds another layer to the museum’s opening. His career has taken him from motorsports into fashion, film and other creative spaces, making his participation part of the event’s broader celebration of storytelling and culture.
The Lucas Museum opens to the public
Although the opening-night celebration took place on September 19, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will officially open to the public on Tuesday, September 22.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore exhibitions that connect traditional fine art with popular culture, including comics, science fiction, children’s illustrations and cinematic storytelling.
For Hamilton, the moment offers a chance to celebrate friends whose vision has taken years to become reality. His message also points to something bigger: creative spaces can give people new ways to see their own experiences and imagine what comes next.
