BLK and The Gathering Spot are bringing business and dating into the same conversation.
The two organizations have partnered on a new Black Business Month campaign called “Open for Business (and Love).” The campaign highlights Black entrepreneurs who are building companies while also making room for meaningful relationships.
The campaign launched with an original content series featuring three Atlanta entrepreneurs. Each episode begins as a traditional business interview before shifting toward the founders’ personal experiences with dating, relationships and love.
The series explores how ambition can shape both professional and romantic lives.
BLK and The Gathering Spot Explore ‘Entrepre-Dating’
The campaign is inspired by a dating trend BLK calls “entrepre-dating.”
The term describes Black singles who want partners who understand the demands of entrepreneurship. That can include long work hours, unpredictable schedules, creative pressure and the responsibility of building a business.
For many entrepreneurs, finding someone who understands that lifestyle can be just as important as finding romantic chemistry.
BLK says it first identified the trend among its community in 2024. Since then, the dating platform has highlighted couples who met through the app and later built businesses together.
The company has also provided $2,000 grants to some couples to support their business partnerships.
The ‘Open for Business (and Love)’ Series
The new series features three Atlanta entrepreneurs.
Shyanne Valentine, founder of Happy Vibes Brand and The Shyanne Effect, appears in the first episode. She discusses treating dating like a second job and the challenges of maintaining a relationship while building her business.
Timothy George, founder and CEO of eLo, is featured in the second episode. His sustainable lifestyle and personal care company grew from a Harlem pop-up in 2017 to two Atlanta retail locations.
George discusses his experience discovering his identity as an entrepreneur and the challenge of switching from CEO mode to dating mode.
The third episode features Alyssa Evans, founder and CEO of Grounded Marketing and co-founder of the Atlanta Book Festival. Evans shares her perspective on dating with intention while pursuing ambitious professional goals.
Together, their stories show how career ambitions can influence dating choices and relationships.
BLK and The Gathering Spot Continue Their Partnership
The campaign also builds on an existing relationship between BLK and The Gathering Spot.
The Gathering Spot is a community and cultural hub for Black professionals, entrepreneurs and creatives. Its Atlanta community provided a natural setting for the campaign’s focus on business, connection and relationships.
The campaign also includes an Atlanta rooftop event designed to bring Black entrepreneurs and professionals together.
The partnership gives the campaign a broader purpose beyond dating. It creates a space where professional networking and personal connections can happen at the same time.
A New Conversation About Love and Ambition
“Open for Business (and Love)” presents entrepreneurship and relationships as two areas that require similar qualities.
Building a company requires time, patience and commitment. The campaign suggests that building a healthy relationship can require those same qualities.
For Black entrepreneurs managing demanding careers, the series offers a closer look at the reality of making room for love while pursuing professional goals.
The BLK and The Gathering Spot collaboration ultimately asks a simple question: Can ambitious people build successful businesses without putting their personal lives on hold?
Through the experiences of its featured entrepreneurs, “Open for Business (and Love)” explores what happens when the answer is yes.
