Queen Latifah is about to take her seat in one of television’s most iconic red chairs. NBC announced on Tuesday, May 12, that the Grammy-winning musician and actress, 56, will join The Voice season 30 as a coach this fall and she brings serious star power to an already formidable panel. Latifah will coach alongside country newcomer Riley Green and returning veterans Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine, marking Queen Latifah’s The Voice debut after a career that has spanned hip-hop, R&B, acting and hosting.
The announcement makes this one of the most anticipated coaching lineups the show has assembled in years.
A packed fall season for the rap icon
Latifah is not slowing down anytime soon. Beyond her Voice debut, she will host the 2026 American Music Awards live from Las Vegas on May 25. Then, in November, she will receive the Early Influence Award at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Nov. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. For a performer who built her legacy across multiple decades and genres, the recognition feels long overdue to many fans.
Riley Green also makes his Voice debut
Latifah is not the only first-timer joining the season 30 panel. Country star Riley Green, 37, also steps into the coaching role for the first time this fall. Green confirmed the news himself over the weekend via Instagram, telling his followers to start calling him coach and promising to see them in the fall. His addition signals the show’s continued embrace of country music as a cornerstone of its coaching roster.
Clarkson and Levine bring serious history to the panel
While Latifah and Green bring fresh energy, Clarkson and Levine anchor the panel with deep roots in the franchise. Season 30 will mark Clarkson’s 10th as a coach a milestone that reflects her evolution from breakout American Idol winner to one of television’s most beloved personalities. Levine, 47, hits an even more remarkable number: season 30 will be his 18th as a coach on the show. The Maroon 5 frontman recently told PEOPLE he has loved every moment of his return to the competition series and plans to keep going as long as the show will have him.
Levine closed out season 29 on a high note. His contestant Alexia Jayy won The Voice: Battle of Champions, a victory Levine told PEOPLE he genuinely believed was coming. He called her one of the best singers he has ever heard.
Why Latifah’s coaching style could surprise fans
Viewers who associate Latifah strictly with hip-hop and R&B may find her musical range broader than expected. In a 2020 appearance on Clarkson’s talk show, Latifah opened up about her appreciation for country music, specifically calling out Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” as a track that felt like a country rap record to her. She also praised Florida Georgia Line for blending genres and noted that country music has increasingly drawn from hip-hop and R&B influences. That kind of cross-genre fluency could make her a uniquely versatile coach for contestants navigating different musical styles.
Season 30 of The Voice arrives this fall on NBC, and with four coaches this compelling, the competition for talent and for viewers promises to be fierce.
