Xscape, the iconic 90s R&B group known for timeless hits like Just Kickin’ It and Who Can I Run To, is gearing up to take the stage once again this summer. Kandi Burruss-Tucker, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle-Harris, and Tamika Scott have proven that their reign over R&B is far from over, even decades after their first rise to fame. Revelence Media’s founder, Porsha Monique, sat down exclusively with Kandi and Tamika to talk about their upcoming tour, balancing motherhood with the demands of performing, and navigating life as a trio without Tamika’s sister, LaTocha Scott.
The transition to performing as a trio hasn’t been without its challenges, but Xscape has always been built on resilience. Tamika shared that it was initially tough, saying, “In the beginning, it was hard because we’ve always been a four-member group. But what’s great about Xscape is that we all can lead. So if one of us isn’t there, the rest of us can step up. That’s what sets us apart.” Kandi reflected on the group’s longevity, explaining, “It’s crazy to think about how far we’ve come. We were kids when we first started, and now, we’re more appreciative of everything we’ve achieved. We didn’t realize back then how much hard work went into it, but now we know.” Despite the changes over the years, their unity as a group and their dedication to their craft remain stronger than ever.
As they prepare to hit the road, starting with a show at the Stockbridge Amphitheater in Georgia on May 3rd, the ladies shared that performing in their home state means a lot to them. “It’s always a little extra special at home because it’s a reminder of where we come from,” Tamika said. But their upcoming tour isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about legacy. The group has faced personal and professional obstacles, yet they continue to stand strong. When asked about their relationship with LaTocha, Tamika responded, “I’m just praying, waiting for God to work things out in His timing—not mine,” adding a layer of vulnerability and strength to their journey.
One of the most candid moments of the interview came when Porsha asked Tamika about the alleged infamous $30K dispute with her sister. Tamika’s response was simple but impactful: “What do you think?” It was a reflection of the tough personal battles the group has navigated while continuing to focus on what really matters—their music and their fans.

As the ladies continue to balance their roles as mothers with their touring schedule, Kandi shared how she juggles motherhood on the road: “When the kids are in school, they don’t come with me on the road, but if it’s during breaks or the summer, they join us. I’ve become the queen of super early flights! I make sure to do my work, then get on the first flight out to be home as early as possible so I can spend time with them before they wake up and we can have a normal day.” Meanwhile, Tamika is making moves offstage as well. She recently launched Scoop and Wick, a dessert-inspired candle line that melts into a massage oil. The 100% vegan and soy-based candles can be found at scoopandwick.com.
Looking ahead, both Kandi and Tamika have big aspirations for Xscape. When asked about their bucket list, Kandi shared, “We’ve always talked about touring overseas, and we definitely want to do a Vegas residency. Not just for one show, but a full residency.” Tamika added, “Tiny always talked about touring overseas, and now we’re all on board for that. A Vegas residency would be amazing.”
In terms of their legacy, Tamika put it simply: “We want to show people that we were just regular girls who wanted this so bad. We worked hard for it, and it paid off, and we still work to this day. We want to inspire especially Black girls to keep pushing, no matter what. We’ve faced a lot of ‘no’s,’ but we’ve received more ‘yes’s,’ and look at us today—we’re still here, still thriving, and still blessed.” As Xscape continues to solidify their place in music history, they’re not just leaving a mark—they’re inspiring future generations to dream big, work hard, and never give up.
