McDonald’s launches massive burger bigger than ever in the US

Fans who thought the Big Mac was the ultimate indulgence may want to clear some space on their trays. McDonald’s is introducing what it calls its largest and most robust burger yet to U.S. menus next month.

Beginning March 3, the chain will roll out the Big Arch Burger for a limited time at participating restaurants nationwide. The oversized sandwich builds on the brand’s signature formula but amplifies it with extra heft and bolder flavor combinations.

What makes the Big Arch Burger different

The Big Arch Burger stacks two quarter-pound beef patties and layers them with three slices of white cheddar cheese. It is topped with lettuce, pickles, crispy onions and slivered onions, all finished with a proprietary Big Arch Sauce. The sandwich is served on a sesame and poppy seed bun, adding texture and visual distinction.

The new sauce is described by the company as tangy and creamy, blending mustard, pickle and sweet tomato notes. The burger aims to combine familiar McDonald’s flavors into a single, more substantial offering.

At 1,057 calories, the Big Arch significantly outweighs the classic Big Mac, which contains 580 calories. For customers seeking a heartier option, the new sandwich nearly doubles the caloric count of one of the chain’s most recognizable menu items.

Why McDonald’s created a bigger burger

According to reporting by USA Today, the development of the Big Arch was driven by customer demand for a larger and more filling beef option. The company began piloting the sandwich approximately a year and a half ago in select international markets.

Test markets included Canada, Germany, France and Switzerland. The product gained enough traction abroad that executives opted to bring it stateside. The Big Arch is already a permanent fixture on menus in the United Kingdom, signaling confidence in its staying power outside the U.S.

Company leadership has indicated that customers responded positively to the more substantial portion size while still recognizing the flavor profile as distinctly McDonald’s.

 How much it might cost

An official U.S. price has not been announced, as pricing will vary by location and individual franchise operator. However, based on pricing in the United Kingdom and Ireland, estimates suggest the burger could land between $10 and $11 in the United States.

That price point would position the Big Arch as a premium menu item, reflecting both its size and ingredient count. With two quarter-pound patties and multiple slices of cheese, the sandwich is designed to compete with other high-calorie, high-protein offerings in the quick-service market.

What it means for the menu

The arrival of the Big Arch Burger signals a continued push by McDonald’s to expand beyond its traditional staples. While items like the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder and McChicken remain foundational, limited-time offerings often generate renewed customer interest and social media buzz.

By introducing its largest burger yet, the chain appears to be responding to evolving consumer appetites for indulgent, shareable and conversation-worthy menu items. The combination of recognizable ingredients and amplified proportions gives longtime customers something new without straying far from familiar flavors.

Whether the Big Arch becomes a permanent addition remains to be seen. For now, it joins the lineup as a limited-time offering, inviting diners to test just how big their burger cravings can get.
