Wiz Khalifa is now wanted by Romanian police after authorities issued a warrant connected to a nine-month prison sentence tied to drug possession charges.
Romanian officials listed the rapper, born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, on their national police website. The notice states that authorities issued a “warrant to execute a prison sentence” after a final court ruling in a case linked to a 2024 music festival performance.
The development adds a legal complication to the rapper’s ongoing international touring schedule, as he continues performing across North America.
Three key events in the case
The legal situation surrounding Wiz Khalifa unfolded through three major stages.
- The initial incident occurred during a July 2024 performance at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinești, Romania. Prosecutors said the rapper smoked marijuana on stage during his set.
- Authorities later reported that he was found in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis following the performance. They classified the substance under Romanian drug laws as illegal for personal use without authorization.
- In December, a Romanian court sentenced him to nine months in prison for illegal drug possession. Officials later confirmed that the sentence became final after appeals concluded.
The case drew international attention because it involved a high-profile performer and occurred during a live festival appearance.
Court ruling and police warrant issued
Romanian prosecutors initially pushed for a harsher penalty after reviewing the incident. A lower court first issued a fine of approximately $830. However, prosecutors appealed the decision and secured a prison sentence.
Authorities later confirmed that the nine-month sentence stands as the final ruling in the case.
The Romanian police website now lists the rapper as wanted, stating the warrant is directly linked to enforcing the prison sentence.
Officials say he has not yet reported to serve the sentence.
Public statement followed festival performance
Following the 2024 festival appearance, Wiz Khalifa addressed the incident publicly on social media platform X.
He acknowledged the performance and said he did not intend to show disrespect toward Romania. He also noted that authorities allowed him to leave after the show.
At the time, he suggested he would return to the country in the future under different circumstances.
Touring schedule continues despite legal status
Despite the warrant, the rapper remains active on tour. He is currently performing on mgk’s Lost Americana tour, which began in May 2026 and includes multiple stops across North America.
He is also preparing to release a collaborative project with mgk titled Blog Era Boyz, scheduled for release on May 22. The project has generated attention among fans of early 2010s hip-hop, a period strongly associated with both artists’ rise in popularity.
The contrast between ongoing performances and active legal proceedings has drawn renewed interest in the case as it continues to develop internationally.
Broader conversation around touring artists and legal risk
The situation highlights the legal risks artists may face while performing internationally, especially in countries with strict drug laws. Festivals often bring global performers into unfamiliar legal environments, where enforcement standards may differ significantly from those in the United States.
International cases involving touring musicians often escalate quickly due to media attention and cross-border legal processes. In many instances, unresolved legal matters can affect future travel, touring schedules, and visa approvals.
For now, Romanian authorities continue to list Wiz Khalifa as wanted while his representatives have not issued a public response to the warrant.
