The Drop Snowfall spinoff FX title is now official. FX announced on June 2, 2026 that the series will be called The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. Moreover, the show will premiere later this year on FX and Hulu in the United States. Furthermore, international audiences will be able to watch the series on Disney Plus. Consequently, the spinoff will reach audiences across every major platform within the Disney Entertainment ecosystem.

Acclaimed producer Malcolm Spellman leads the creative team. He executive produces alongside Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, Trevor Engelson, and Paul Garnes. Additionally, FX Productions is handling production duties on the series. Therefore, the show carries the full creative infrastructure of the original Snowfall alongside new voices shaping its direction.

What The Drop is about and when it is set

The Drop: A Snowfall Saga is set in 1990s Los Angeles, picking up with two of the most beloved characters from the original series. Wanda, played by Gail Bean, and Leon, played by Isaiah John, return as the central figures. Moreover, the series follows them as they fight to take West Coast rap mainstream during one of the most explosive periods in hip-hop history. Furthermore, gang wars erupt in the background while record labels move aggressively to exploit hip-hop culture for their own financial gain. Consequently, the show builds on the themes of the original while shifting its focus to the music world.

The period setting places the series at the exact moment West Coast rap was transforming from a regional phenomenon into a global force. Moreover, the tension between artistic authenticity and corporate exploitation gives the show a rich thematic foundation that extends well beyond its direct Snowfall connection. Additionally, Wanda and Leon were fan favorites throughout the original run of Snowfall. Consequently, their return is likely to generate strong viewership among the existing audience while the music focus opens the series to new fans who may not have followed the original show.

The full cast of The Drop A Snowfall Saga

Gail Bean and Isaiah John headline the series as Wanda and Leon. They are joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Buddy Sims III as series regulars. Moreover, a number of additional cast members join the show in recurring roles.

Here is the full list of cast members confirmed for The Drop: A Snowfall Saga:

  1. Gail Bean as Wanda
  2. Isaiah John as Leon
  3. Asante Blackk
  4. Peyton Alex Smith
  5. Simmie Buddy Sims III
  6. Mykelti Williamson
  7. Nicki Micheaux
  8. Brandon Mychal Smith
  9. Isidora Goreshter
  10. Eric Balfour
  11. Richard Portnow
  12. Zaire Adams
  13. Demetrius Grosse
  14. Quincy Chad, who also returns from Snowfall

Additionally, Quincy Chad’s return from the original series creates an additional thread of continuity between the two shows. Consequently, the cast combines Snowfall veterans with new faces in a way that should feel familiar and fresh simultaneously.

Malcolm Spellman and the creative team behind the spinoff

Malcolm Spellman is one of the most respected writers and producers working in prestige television today. He is best known for his work on Empire, What If, and the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Moreover, his involvement in The Drop signals FX’s commitment to giving the Snowfall legacy a genuinely ambitious creative successor. Furthermore, Thomas Schlamme brings extensive experience in prestige drama direction to the production, having worked on landmark series including The West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

Dave Andron served as showrunner on Snowfall and brings direct continuity to the spinoff’s creative DNA. Moreover, his presence ensures the new series maintains the storytelling standards that made Snowfall one of FX’s most critically respected dramas. Additionally, the combination of Spellman’s music industry knowledge and Andron’s Snowfall experience creates an unusually well-matched creative partnership for this particular story. Consequently, The Drop arrives with a creative team that understands both the world it is building and the legacy it is honoring.
