A Father’s Day full of fireworks across baseball
Sunday’s MLB schedule delivered one of the most entertaining days of the 2026 season. Home runs flew in every direction. Meanwhile, late-game comebacks kept fans on the edge of their seats. To top it all off, one outfielder made a play that could end up being the catch of the year. Here is a rundown of the biggest moments from around the league on June 21.
Schwarber and Harper put on a show for the Phillies
Kyle Schwarber continued his torrid stretch at the plate on Sunday. He launched a towering three-run home run that reached the second deck, giving Philadelphia a massive boost. Earlier in the game, he had already walked and scored. Then, when Bryce Harper stepped in against a new pitcher, he refused to be outdone. Harper drove one down the right field line and into the seats. As a result, the Phillies pushed their lead to 6-1. Overall, the Philadelphia offense looked completely unstoppable.
Cardinals and Royals trade punches in a slugfest
The Cardinals and Royals played one of the wildest games of the day. St. Louis built a big early lead. First, Mason Win delivered a three-run homer. Then, Weatherhole added an opposite field shot to push the Cardinals ahead 7-2. However, Kansas City refused to fold. The Royals kept answering, including a splash home run that landed in the second deck. As the lead changed hands multiple times, both bullpens struggled to hold their advantages. Nevertheless, St. Louis ultimately survived in game three of the series.
Angels stage a stunning comeback
The Angels trailed early but refused to go quietly. Denzair Guzman stepped up and delivered a go-ahead home run. Remarkably, it was his third in as many days. That blast tied the game in dramatic fashion. Then, Zach Neto came through with a walk-off hit to give the Angels the lead for good. Consequently, the rally capped off a thrilling afternoon and sent the home crowd into a frenzy.
Jordan Walker makes a potential catch of the year
One of the top defensive plays of the day came from Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker. He leaped at the wall and robbed what appeared to be a certain home run. Furthermore, the grab kept a potential rally from developing at a crucial moment. Immediately, the play drew comparisons to the best catches of the entire season. Without question, it stands as one of the most athletic plays fans have seen all year.
Orioles torch the Dodgers in Los Angeles
Baltimore put on a power display in Los Angeles. Pete Alonzo visited the Dodger Stadium bleachers once again. Additionally, the Orioles homered in back-to-back innings to build a commanding lead. Then, Blaze Alexander added his 12th home run of the season. As a result of the relentless attack, the final margin was decisive. In the end, Baltimore left Los Angeles with an impressive road series performance.
Brewers overpower the Braves
Milwaukee erupted for a massive inning against Atlanta. William Contreras delivered a three-run blast that blew the game open. As a result, the Brewers pushed to an 8-1 lead. Consequently, Atlanta’s pitching staff had no answers for Milwaukee’s lineup. The Brewers rolled to a dominant series finale win, with their offense doing damage from top to bottom throughout the game.
Reds hold off the Yankees
Cincinnati’s Chase Burns delivered another brilliant outing against New York. Rather than overpowering hitters, he handled the Yankees lineup with command and efficiency. Meanwhile, Tyler Stevenson provided the big offensive moment. He hit a two-out three-run shot that gave the Reds a lead they never relinquished. Ultimately, Cincinnati swept three straight from New York in an impressive showing.
Mariners, Astros, Pirates and more
Logan Gilbert pitched brilliantly for Seattle. Then, a heads-up diving catch in right field converted into a double play, helping the Mariners protect a one-run lead late. Elsewhere, Ron Alvarez circled the bases with his 25th home run of the year to start a new on-base streak. Meanwhile, Houston edged the Guardians 2-1 in a tight pitching duel. In Pittsburgh, Nick Gonzales went deep for his third homer and Brian Reynolds added a tank shot. Together, those blasts helped the Pirates escape Colorado with a win.
In addition, Minnesota rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to take the series in Phoenix over the Diamondbacks. Finally, the Marlins swept the Giants behind a strong pitching performance and a game-ending double play to close out Father’s Day across the league.
