On Sunday, Aug. 23, the sports world came together to honor the late Los Angeles Lakers icon on what would have been his 48th birthday. Teams, athletes and fans used the occasion to celebrate Bryant’s extraordinary basketball career and lasting influence.
Bryant remains one of the most celebrated players in Lakers history. His 20-year NBA career included five championships, 18 All-Star selections and the 2008 NBA MVP award. He spent his entire professional career with the Lakers.
Kobe Bryant’s Birthday Brings Tributes
Bryant’s birthday has become an annual moment for fans to remember his impact.
The date also leads into Mamba Day on Aug. 24. The two dates hold special meaning because Bryant wore No. 8 early in his career and later wore No. 24.
