Fans of Snowfall have a new story to follow.
FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premiered Sept. 8 and is now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for eligible bundle subscribers. New episodes arrive weekly through Oct. 27.
The series continues the stories of Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons. Both characters return from Snowfall as they enter a new chapter in Los Angeles.
This time, the story moves into the early 1990s. The crack cocaine epidemic has left lasting damage, while West Coast rap is beginning to transform American culture.
Wanda and Leon enter a new era
Wanda, played by Gail Bean, is determined to use music to create a better future.
She believes West Coast rap can change American culture. She begins building a group of young artists while trying to protect her family.
Her journey brings her into the music business. It also places her close to street politics.
Leon, played by Isaiah John, has a different goal.
He wants to leave the streets behind and seek redemption through a free legal clinic. However, his connection to Wanda keeps pulling him back into a complicated world.
New faces join The Drop
The Drop: A Snowfall Saga introduces several new characters.
Asante Blackk plays Lamar Kinsey, a gifted young musician whose talent puts him in a difficult position.
Peyton Alex Smith plays Lamar’s older brother, James Kinsey. He is a former gang member who understands the dangers surrounding his family.
Simmie “Buddy” Sims III plays Artillery, a talented rapper whose music is closely connected to the violence around him.
Brandon Mychal Smith plays Darryl “DG” Grant, a former drug dealer who is trying to build a future in the music industry.
The cast also includes Nicki Micheaux as Gerty Kinsey and Mykelti Williamson as James “Big Daddy” Kinsey.
The Snowfall story continues
The new series picks up shortly after the events of Snowfall.
However, viewers do not need to have watched the original series to follow Wanda and Leon’s new journey. Disney+ says the spinoff carries forward the character-driven storytelling and authenticity that defined Snowfall.
The new series also explores a different side of Los Angeles.
Music becomes a path toward opportunity. At the same time, ambition, family loyalty and street politics create new dangers.

For fans who followed Franklin Saint’s story in Snowfall, the new series offers another look at the people trying to build lives after the chaos of the 1980s.
