A new look at Verity gives fans a glimpse into a dark story filled with secrets, obsession and blurred lines between fiction and reality.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, the psychological thriller stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. Michael Showalter directs the film, with Nick Antosca writing the screenplay.
Verity will arrive exclusively in theaters on Oct. 2.
Anne Hathaway leads a twisted story
Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a renowned author whose life takes a dark turn.
Dakota Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who gets an unexpected opportunity. Lowen travels to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity.
At first, the assignment seems like a career breakthrough.
However, Lowen soon discovers something disturbing.
She uncovers what appears to be Verity’s autobiographical notes. The writings contain troubling confessions about Verity’s husband, Jeremy.
Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy Crawford in the film. The story then takes Lowen into a dangerous world where secrets become harder to separate from reality.
Verity blurs fiction and reality
The story explores the thin line between truth and fiction.
As Lowen reads Verity’s writings, she begins to question what she can trust. The revelations also complicate her relationship with Jeremy.
The film explores manipulation, attraction and obsession. Each discovery raises new questions about what actually happened inside the Crawford home.
That uncertainty drives the tension at the heart of Verity.
The official film materials describe the movie as a psychological thriller and drama. The film carries an R rating for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence and bloody images.
Colleen Hoover’s bestseller reaches the big screen
Verity adapts Hoover’s bestselling novel for the big screen.
The film brings together an established cast and creative team. Showalter directs, while Antosca handles the screenplay.
Hathaway also serves as one of the film’s producers. Hoover is among the credited producers as well.
The cast also includes Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner.
Verity arrives in theaters October 2
The film will open exclusively in theaters on Oct. 2.
Ahead of the release, the studio has shared official clips titled “Meeting Verity” and “Say Something.”
The campaign invites audiences into the unsettling world at the center of the story. Its central question remains simple but disturbing: What happens when fiction begins to look like reality?
With Hathaway, Johnson and Hartnett leading the cast, Verity brings Hoover’s psychological thriller to movie theaters this fall.
