The Met Gala 2026 beauty looks arrived on May 4 and delivered one of the most daring and creative nights in the event’s recent history. The theme Costume Art pushed hair and makeup artists to think beyond conventional glamour and into something closer to wearable performance art. Stars melted their makeup into watercolor shadows, aged themselves with prosthetics, channeled Old Hollywood waves, and wrapped their faces in metallic gold. Moreover, the night proved that the red carpet is no longer just about the dress. The beauty has become the show in its own right. Here are the moments that stood out most.
Beyoncé’s Cécred waves made her Met Gala comeback complete

Beyoncé’s return to the Met Gala after a 10-year absence was always going to generate headlines. Her Olivier Rousteing skeleton dress delivered on the fashion side. Her hair, however, was equally deliberate. Global stylist Neal Farinah used Cécred products exclusively to create what he described as ethereal waves built around texture and definition. He used the brand’s Thermal Shield Mist, Voluminizing Mousse, Strong Hold Gel, and Flexible Hold Spray to achieve the final result. The goal was definition without confinement curls with drama but not rigidity. Additionally, Farinah said the look was a celebration of texture. Given that Cécred is Beyoncé’s own haircare brand, the styling choice doubled as a product showcase and a personal statement at the same time.
Rihanna’s metallic makeup closed the night in gilded perfection

Rihanna, as is her tradition, closed out the red carpet. She wore a bejeweled mock-neck bodice with a shimmery fabric wrapped around her body but the most striking detail was her face. Her makeup was entirely metallic, golden, and precisely applied. A few golden strands curled to frame her face. Sequin details decorated the edges of her eyes. Furthermore, the look paired with her gilded outfit in a way that made her appear almost luminous against the carpet lighting. She arrived with A$AP Rocky, who wore a baby pink Chanel overcoat. The contrast between his playful color and her gilded severity made the couple’s joint entrance one of the most visually compelling moments of the evening.
Bad Bunny aged himself 53 years with jaw-dropping prosthetics

The most technically ambitious beauty look of the night belonged to Bad Bunny. He arrived in a custom Zara tuxedo and appeared to have aged 53 years. White curls, wrinkled skin, sun spots, and a cane completed a transformation that left photographers on the carpet visibly stunned. The makeup artist behind it was Mike Marino, who has become famous for creating Heidi Klum’s elaborate Halloween looks. Moreover, the choice to use a fashion brand like Zara rather than a luxury house for such an elaborate costume art statement read as an intentional commentary on the theme itself. The result was one of the most talked-about individual moments of the entire 2026 Met Gala.
Emma Chamberlain’s Gothic eyes and Old Hollywood waves dominated the beauty conversation

Emma Chamberlain’s makeup was one of the night’s most discussed beauty choices. Celebrity makeup artist Lilly Keys crafted what she described as a surreal and slightly Gothic aesthetic. The skin was kept almost glass-like. On top of that, she layered mauve, deep plum, and flashes of iridescent yellow so the makeup shifted with the light. The effect was prismatic, fluid, and slightly otherworldly. Additionally, Léna Mahfouf and Jordan Roth both decorated their eyes in watercolor shadow, taking direct inspiration from the Costume Art theme. Cara Delevingne went another direction entirely with a flawless smoky flick of liner and a wet-look wave updo. La La Anthony and Sabrina Carpenter chose soft, wide-barrel Old Hollywood curls. Together, the variety across just the eye and hair looks alone illustrated how broadly the theme allowed for interpretation.
The other beauty moments that completed the night
Janelle Monáe arrived with a micro bob and a heavily embellished manicure that immediately drew attention. Olivia Wilde wore baby-blonde highlights that felt effortless against the high-concept outfits around her. Ashley Graham delivered silver chrome nails that made her one of the night’s most referenced beauty choices on social media. Furthermore, Katy Perry went furthest of anyone by hiding her entire face behind a chrome mask an extreme interpretation of the beauty category that blurred the line between makeup and costume entirely. Maya Hawke, a recent newlywed, wore a swinging 1960s updo with an oversized headband. Hailey Bieber kept her look clean and fresh-faced against the maximalism around her.
