Mookie Betts delivered his best game of the 2026 season on Tuesday. He went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 15-6. The performance came at a timely moment. Over his previous seven games, Betts had gone just 4-for-29, a .138 batting average. As a result, the Dodgers moved him into the cleanup spot for the first time this season. The adjustment paid off right away.
Betts launched a two-run home run in the first inning. That blast opened the scoring and immediately set the tone. He then added a second home run later in the game. By that point, Los Angeles had already pulled away convincingly.
Where Betts stands on the season
Tuesday’s breakout improved Betts’ numbers considerably. Through 21 contests in 2026, he now has six home runs, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and two doubles. His batting average sits at .190 with a .679 OPS. Those figures remain below his typical production levels. Nevertheless, the performance showed that his underlying power and bat speed are still very much intact.
One strong game will not resolve all concerns about his early-season pace. However, it gives the Dodgers and fantasy managers a clear reminder of what Betts can do when he gets going.
What to watch going forward
The cleanup spot experiment is worth monitoring. If the Dodgers keep him there, he will see more run-producing opportunities. Consequently, his RBI total could climb faster than his average alone might suggest. Furthermore, pitchers tend to approach cleanup hitters differently than those batting lower in the order. That shift in approach could work in Betts‘ favor as he looks to build on Tuesday’s performance over the coming weeks.
