Dansby Swanson goes off for 11 RBIs as MLB delivers one of its wildest Wednesdays of the season
If you missed Wednesday’s MLB action on June 24, 2026, you missed a lot. From a historic milestone to a jaw-dropping Cubs performance to a game that ended with a kickball, the day delivered more drama than most weeks combined. Here is a breakdown of the biggest moments.
Dansby Swanson puts on an all-time performance for the Cubs
The story of the day belonged entirely to Dansby Swanson. The Cubs shortstop was simply unstoppable across a doubleheader, finishing the day with a staggering 11 RBIs. He delivered in every conceivable situation, tying games, extending leads and providing the kind of clutch performance that defines memorable seasons.
In game one, Swanson hit his 10th home run of the season to give the Cubs a commanding lead. He also came through with a grand slam earlier in the game to push Chicago to a 10-3 advantage. Moreover, he added a go-ahead RBI triple and an RBI single to keep the damage rolling. In the nightcap, he continued his destruction, driving in run after run as the Cubs put up 10 runs in that game as well. By the end of the night, Swanson had driven in 11 total runs. It was the kind of day that belongs in a highlight reel forever.
Mookie Betts reaches a milestone with home run No. 300
Over in the Dodgers game, Mookie Betts gave fans another moment to celebrate. The eight-time All-Star and former MVP launched a deep drive to left-center field in the second inning for career home run No. 300. It was a significant milestone for one of baseball’s most complete players. Betts now stands alongside some of the game’s great multi-tool performers with 300 big league home runs, 4 World Series rings and 6 Gold Gloves to his name. Additionally, Shohei Ohtani turned in a strong outing on the mound, going 6 innings with 8 strikeouts and an ERA that now sits at 1.58.
The Angels survive one of the strangest finishes of the season
The Angels pulled off a comeback against the Orioles that ended in a way nobody could have scripted. Trailing and down to their final out, the Angels tied the game on a Wade Meckler base hit. Then, on what appeared to be a routine ground ball, the defense let things slip away. The ball kicked away on a bobble, allowing the winning run to advance all the way to third. From there, a check-swing bouncer ended it in the Angels’ favor. The game finished with what can only be described as a kickball and a swinging bunt single. Strange, chaotic and absolutely unforgettable.
Around the rest of MLB
Elsewhere on Wednesday, the action kept coming. Here is a quick look at other notable performances and moments from across the league.
The Yankees got a dominant showing from Paul Goldschmidt, who hit 2 home runs including a leadoff blast to open the game. Sergio Dominguez added a 2-run shot to push the Yankees lead to 4-2.
The Brewers hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning and held on to win a tight game against the Reds 6-5, with Garrett Mitchell making a highlight-reel diving catch to help preserve the victory.
The Diamondbacks cruised with back-to-back home runs of their own, including a first career big league home run for Lou James Groover in the fourth inning.
The Astros got a clutch contribution from Esso Paredes, who extended his hitting streak to 8 games and is batting .435 during that stretch.
The Pirates got big contributions from multiple hitters including a triple and a base hit in a strong offensive showing.
The Marlins took down the Rangers 4-2 with back-to-back wins in games two and three to take the series.
The White Sox rallied late with what felt like magic in the air, but ultimately the Guardians held on.
The Giants edged the Athletics 2-1 on a walk-off home run by a rookie in a low-scoring thriller.
Wednesday was exactly what baseball promises at its best. Drama in every ballpark, history in Los Angeles and a performance from Dansby Swanson that Cubs fans will be talking about for years.
