Lil Wayne shut down engagement rumors in an Instagram video posted on Sunday, July 5. The 43-year-old rapper addressed speculation that he had proposed to Madi Cannon, 23. He also confirmed that they had ended their relationship. Wayne said they separated out of concern for her rather than because of conflict. His comments ended weeks of rumors about both his engagement and relationship status.
Wayne said he shared a beautiful relationship with an amazing person. However, he did not want to become a burden because of his current circumstances. He explained that they made the decision together. He also admitted the breakup had been difficult. Just a week earlier, Cannon shared a selfie with Wayne. She also appeared with him and Skip Bayless in a photo the sports commentator posted on July 29. Those social media posts fueled the engagement rumors.
Epilepsy and migraines forced Wayne to miss the Maine tour opener
Wayne also explained why he missed his June 30 concert in Maine. The show launched his latest tour. He revealed that he lives with epilepsy and that severe migraines can trigger seizures. He suffered a major migraine that day. Doctors advised him not to fly. Wayne added that he has not experienced a seizure in years, and he said he is grateful for that progress. The missed concert resulted from a medical precaution, not an unexplained cancellation.
Wayne has dealt with epilepsy for many years. In 2017, doctors rushed him to a Chicago hospital after he suffered a seizure. A year earlier, his private jet made an emergency landing after he experienced multiple seizures during a flight from Milwaukee to California. In a 2013 interview, Wayne openly discussed his condition. He revealed that he had experienced many seizures that never became public. Sunday’s update continued his long history of speaking honestly about his health.
What happened after Wayne missed the Maine show
Wayne returned to the stage soon after missing the tour opener. On July 1, he attended Michael Rubin’s White Party in Southampton, New York, where he reportedly performed. He resumed the tour on July 2 with a concert in Saratoga Springs, New York. The following night, he performed in New Hampshire. Reports said he took the stage about two hours later than scheduled at BankNH Pavilion in Gilford. Even so, the delay did not disrupt the overall tour.
Wayne also apologized to fans in his Instagram video. He addressed both his health and his personal life instead of leaving questions unanswered. Billboard contacted his representatives for comment but did not receive a response before publication. The tour will pause for several weeks before resuming in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 16. The break gives Wayne and his team time to prepare for the remaining dates.
Lil Wayne’s epilepsy continues to shape his career
Wayne has spoken publicly about epilepsy for more than a decade. Since then, he has experienced several high-profile medical emergencies related to seizures. The condition has also affected his touring schedule because air travel and severe migraines can increase seizure risk. His latest Instagram video reflects the same openness he has shown for years. That honesty has made him one of hip-hop’s most transparent artists when discussing a chronic health condition.
The tour schedule includes a break before the Iowa performance. That gap gives Wayne extra time to recover and prepare. His quick return to the stage suggests the migraine was a temporary setback rather than a serious relapse. His team will likely continue monitoring travel plans and scheduling throughout the tour. They hope to avoid the health issues that affected opening night.
