Dutton Ranch is coming back. Paramount+ confirmed a second season renewal for the Yellowstone spinoff on Thursday, keeping Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser in their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. The news arrives after a debut that broke records for the platform.
According to Paramount, Dutton Ranch drew 12.9 million global viewers in its first seven days of streaming. That number made it the biggest original series launch in Paramount+ history. Season 1 follows Beth and Rip as they try to build a new life in South Texas, navigating neighboring ranch tensions, old wounds and new threats. The season one finale streams Friday, July 3, on Paramount+.
The showrunner change heading into Dutton Ranch season 2
Season 2 will arrive with a notable shift behind the scenes. Chad Feehan, who created Dutton Ranch and served as showrunner and executive producer throughout the first season, will not return for season 2. No replacement has been announced.
Cole Hauser addressed the change in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, noting that showrunner transitions happen regularly in the industry and that teams adapt over time. Kelly Reilly spoke warmly about finishing the first season alongside Feehan, describing it as a difficult but satisfying production experience.
What fans can expect from Dutton Ranch going forward
No premiere date for season 2 has been confirmed and story details are not yet public. The renewal itself guarantees that Beth and Rip’s story continues beyond the July 3 finale. For fans who spent years following these characters through Yellowstone, the continuation offers more time with two of the franchise’s most popular figures in a new setting.
The record debut numbers make the renewal straightforward from a business standpoint. A showrunner change between seasons is not unusual in television, though it does introduce questions about how the creative direction may shift with someone new taking the lead. For now, the priority heading into July 3 is the season finale. After that, the wait for season 2 begins.
