Antigua Carnival 2026 is one month away. The festival runs from July 25 to August 4, bringing eleven days of music, street parades and cultural celebrations to the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. This year’s theme is Feel the Rhythm, and organizers say the lineup reflects that promise fully.
The annual event transforms the island into an open-air celebration. Steelpan, soca and calypso music fill the streets of St. John’s. Traditional characters and masqueraders parade through the city. Fetes run from early morning through the night for nearly two weeks straight.
What to expect at Antigua Carnival 2026
The festival opens on July 25 with T-Shirt Mas and the official launch of Carnival City. From there, the schedule builds toward the biggest street events of the year. J’ouvert takes place on August 3. That same day and the following, Carnival Monday and the Parade of the Bands take over. The festival closes on August 4 with Last Lap.
Several competitions anchor the program. The Calypso Monarch and Party Monarch contests draw top local performers competing for titles that carry significant cultural weight. The Panorama competition puts steelpan front and center, showcasing one of the Caribbean’s most beloved musical traditions. Junior Carnival also takes the stage on July 26, giving younger performers their moment.
The Carnival performances drawing the most attention
One event stands out above the rest. Face Off, scheduled for July 24, pits Antigua and Barbuda’s legendary Burning Flames band against Dominica’s Triple K International. The two bands represent different traditions within Caribbean music, and the head-to-head format has generated excitement across the region.
Regional soca stars also headline major performances throughout the festival. Machel Montano, Patrice Roberts, Voice, Skinny Fabulous and Muddy are all confirmed. Antigua’s own Tian Winter and Tizzy round out a program that balances international draws with homegrown talent. Patrice Roberts also headlines her own concert on July 28 titled the I Am Woman show.

Why Antigua Carnival is worth planning around
Antigua and Barbuda sits in the heart of the Caribbean Sea and offers 365 beaches across its shoreline. The festival gives travelers a reason to combine beach time with one of the region’s most celebrated cultural events. The island’s food, music and community spirit all peak during Carnival season.
Furthermore, 2026 carries extra significance. This year’s event sets the stage for Carnival 70 in 2027, a milestone anniversary that organizers have already begun building toward. Attending this year places visitors inside a growing moment for the festival’s history.
